Steam Hardware Survey Ė January 2009 (http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey) 4:08
I was quite surprise to see how few people are running SLI or Crossfire and how many people were running older AMD processors.  According to the hardware survey, AMD is very alive and well, and ATI is the big underdog.  According to current press and reviews, Intel is kicking AMD and ATI is kicking NVIDIA.  Things are different in the retail world.

Free Kindles for Apple Haters (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/02/12/amazon_may_compete_with_apple_ipad_by_giving_away_free_kindles.html) 13:37
While it may not be true that you have to hate Apple, you will have to spend $79 a year on a Premium Amazon Membership to qualify for a free Kindle.  This is the kind of competition that we need to make companies release good products with service in mind.  This is for those of you that want a real e-Book reader and not a tablet with horrible contrast for your eyes.  Check into it if you are in the USA for sure.

Windows 8 Rumors Ė Then Takedown (http://apcmag.com/windows-8-breaks-cover-gets-hushed-up-again-by-microsoft.htm) 20:23
It appears that there are already rumblings of what will appear in the next release of Windows.  Windows 8, or Windows.next, or whatever.  We are hoping that itís not a typical on again off again tradition that has plagued MS for the past few releases.  Window 98 Ė Good, Windows ME Ė bad.  Windows XP Ė Good, Windows Vista Ė Bad.  Windows 7 Ė Good, Windows 8 Ė Hopefully not the suck.  Unfortunately, the post was removed from MSDN shortly after release.  Thankfully Google has a cached version here (

Toshiba Develops 1TB SSD on a Stamp (http://hothardware.com/News/Toshiba-Develops-1TB-SSD-That-Fits-On-A-Postage-Stamp/)  27:22
Iím excited to see that NAND is shrinking and controllers and technology are getting better, but Jason does make a good point that they havenít even built a proof-of-concept yet and this could be many years out.  Or end up like the holographic storage Ė that is vaporware.

Google Tries Super Fast Internet (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/10/AR2010021001649.html?hpid=topnews) 31:38
Google is not an ISP by any means but they are experimenting with a project that gives users 1000Mbps internet and they want to find out what they can do with it.  My first thought is P2P craziness and newsgroup action.  It would be pretty incredible and you could max out your 125GB Bandwidth cap in under 17 minutes, or Comcasts 250GB cap in just over half an hour.  Wow.  What would you do with unlimited download speeds?

Google Buzz (http://mashable.com/2010/02/14/google-buzz-column/) 38:41
In reality, itís just another social network that syndicates data from your other feeds (Picasa, Flickr, Twitter, etc) but it has a huge following already.  Google Buzz hasnít been out very long and usage is pretty incredible for a service that isnít a full week old as we write this.  If youíre a Gmail user, youíre pretty much signed up.  Try it out and see how you like it.  Follow bcchardware@gmail.com and Iíll try and buzz you.
