Heatsinks for Gigabyte video card Ram
« on: December 04, 2006, 12:36:38 pm »
Hi !

I have Gigabyte video card, model GV-NX66256DP (GeForce 6600 GPU),
My GPU cooled by Zalman Fatal1ty FC-ZV9.
The Ram heatsinks that provided in the package of the Fatal1ty cooler doesn't fit my Ram chips.
I have found out Thermaltake heatsinks that fits my Ram chips
but there are two kinds of heatsinks with an identical dimensions.
The first made of copper,
the second made of aluminum but have more fins.

Which one of these two will give me better performance in overclock ?

Copper traditionally provides better heat dissipation, but on the DDR that comes on that card - the aluminum heatsinks would work great - provided you have some airflow over the smaller fins.  Personally, I'd got with aluminum and use a little air.

The sinks that i got with the Fatal1ty cooler doesn't fit my ram chips.
ram chips dimensions 22x10, sinks dimensions 13*13*6
The thermaltake sinks should fit perfectly but i still wondering which one will give me better performance aluminium or copper

The ramsinks provided with the Fatal1ty cooler are intended for BGA packaged memory chips while the card you have has TSOP packaged memory chips.  In all honesty, the heat output of TSOP RAM is low enough I don't think you would see any difference between the copper or the aluminum.  That being said, copper is a better conductor to whisk the heat away from the RAM, but aluminum is better at releasing the heat to the air.  If you have good airflow in your case - the aluminum would win.  If you have poor airflow, choose copper.
