Android App Pick - Lapse It

Application: Lapse It ($1.99 for Pro)

It's Monday!! I had a great long weekend and didn't have a lot to do other than check out some great Apps.  I felt a bit "artsy" and was feeling creative this past weekend.  I was able to get outdoors for a bit on the weekend and take some video by way of time lapse.  My pick this week is an app that I've been dying to review but has taken some time to play around with.  Lapse It is a fun little app that helps you contribute to all of those cool time lapse videos you've probably seen on YouTube.  Seeing these awesome videos has inspired me to do some of this myself.

Capturing a time lapsing is quite interesting. Many newer Android phones have a time lapse feature with the video camera, but for those of you that don’t have this function – or want greater control – you can certainly try this app out.  The Pro version of Lapse It does front camera video, in addition to the rear camera.  I’m no artist as you'll see below.  Still, I can draw a little bit.

Lapse It comes in two versions – free and Pro.  I started with the free version to see if I liked it – I did.  So I dropped $1.99 and went all pro.  The pro version has more options for resolution setting and more.  If you know what you're doing and are good with math, you will be able to figure out how to set your frame intervals to make your video awesome.  With my time lapse I went with a frame interval of two and a time scale in seconds – that’s one click every two seconds.  I chose a resolution of 720p and rendered at 30fps.  I left the other settings on their defaults.  In the end, I realized I should have went with frame interval of one instead of two.   After you have your video captured, you then render it so it’s playable on your computer or other devices.  You can have a lot of fun – such as re-enacting a 3 hour movie into just 3 minutes!
