Introduction:

There are 2 good reasons to upgrade your case fans, either the fans that came with your case are way too loud, or the fans that came with your case are now making a racket and need a replacement. We've had the chance over the years to take a look at a bunch of different aftermarket fans and today we've got a new competitor, NZXT.

NZXT is probably most well-known for their cases (which we have reviewed numerous times over the years), but they've also got a lineup of case fans to help get you a little extra airflow without making a whole bunch of noise. Today we are going to be looking at NZXT's FZ-120 and FZ-140 fans which both come in LED and Non-LED versions.

In order to see what the NZXT FZ-120 and FZ-140 are capable of we'll be comparing them to some other aftermarket fan's that we've reviewed in the past:

First Impressions:

It's pretty tough to get too excited about case fans, but overall I'd say my first impressions of the FZ-120 and FZ-140 fans was very positive. Neither of the models felt cheap or flimsy and thanks to the 13 fans blades that each of these models offer they look pretty aggressive.

As you can see in the first set of pictures, NZXT sent us both the Non-LED version of each fan as well as a couple that had LEDs built-in. Our FZ-120 has white LEDs and the FZ-140 has green LEDs.

Neither the FZ-120 or FZ-140 really offer much in terms of accessories, but you'll get 4 screws and a power adapter which should be everything you need to get started.

The Non-LED version of both the FZ-120 and FZ-140 are pretty standard looking other than the fact that they've got a ton of fins (13 to be exact). It has been interesting to see over the years as companies have experimented with more and less fan blades but as of right now 13 blades is the most that we've ever seen on a fan we've tested at BCCHardware.

The LED versions of both the FZ-120 and FZ-140 are pretty much identical to the Non-LED version except for the fact that the fan blades are clear and you've got 4 LED lights built into the frame of the fans. You can see in the picture below how the Non-LED and the LED versions of these fans compare.

There we go, that's what the FZ-140 and FZ-120 fans look like. Let's move onto the next section to see what these fans are capable of.
