Remember back in the day when you got your first computer and all the great stuff that came with it? Most computer packages today come with a cheap and basic set of accessories which includes your keyboard and mouse but after a while they can get worn out and so we often end up spending our hard earned money on some great upgrades! w00t!!
If you're a gamer, or are always on the computer clicking away, SteelSeries has recently released the Sensei Pro Grade Mouse that's as customizable as it is slick. My fellow readers, you can tweak this mouse to your heart's content! This may not matter to the average user, but to a gamer it will matter for sure. Even though the Sensei is geared toward "professional" gamers (or those who want to be) this mouse has great features for absolutely everyone.
About the Mouse:
When making a mouse some companies care only about design while others focus more on the performance. SteelSeries has tried to focus on both and the Sensei is touted as one of their greatest achievements. One thing that makes this mouse so different is that you can make it personal!
When I first took the Sensei out of the box it felt nice and light-weight and has a shiny, smooth, (almost metallic) silver look to it. The Sensei is made from plastic and the finish has a nice metal look.
The sides are black and smooth - not "grippy" like other mice such as the NZXT Avatar. I prefer mice with some grip on the sides and think it would be nice if the sides weren't so slick and smooth.
The Sensei also has the flexible and durable braided cord. If you're not familiar with this cord, it has a cloth-like outer layer that is more durable and helps protect the wires from breaking inside the traditional plastic coating.
SteelSeries has made this mouse customizable - not only in when it comes to D.P.I. adjustment, but also the color of the LED lights in the mouse. Not only does it look pretty, but it also is great when it gets dark which prevents you from knocking your mouse off your desk and have to hunt around to try and find it. I also love the fact that you can customize your mouse to whatever colors you want. There are a few default mouse colors available, but there are about 16.8 million different color options in three zones that are programmable and can be customized individually for each game you play. Another way to make this mouse distinctly yours is by customizing the LCD screen on the bottom of the mouse. This dot-matrix LCD can display your own name, clan name, a game you play, or whatever you want written to personalize it - including a logo.
I love a mouse that has a lot of buttons and this one delivers! OK, maybe this mouse dosn't have as many buttons as I had hoped for, but it does have a few more than a mouse like the NZXT Avatar (this one has four extra side buttons). There are two buttons on each side which can be tweaked (as all of the buttons can) for macros. Other buttons include the obvious right and left buttons, mouse-wheel and the sensitivity toggle button. The Pro Grade Laser Mouse can double mouse speed DCPI: from 5.701 to an insane 11.400 DCPI. Another awesome thing about the mouse is that it can be ambidextrous for weird gamers like BoneRak. The shape of the Sensei is completely uniform so that you can use it for whichever hand you prefer and allows "righties" and "lefties" to shoot n00bs equally comfortably.
On the next page we'll take a look at the features and specifications of the SteelSeries Sensei mouse before we take a look at the software and set up the mouse.
