Silicon Power Diamond D10 USB 3.0 HDD Final Thoughts:

When Silicon Power shipped me this hard drive it was the first time I have ever touched one of their products and I really didn't have any idea what to expect. Like most everyone else I've used and owned at some point it time portable hard drives from big hard drive companies like Seagate and Western Digital and I was very interested to see how a lesser-known (in North America at least) name like Silicon Power would be able to compare. In the end I was pleasantly surprised to see how a portable hard drive like the Diamond D10 was able to do everything that the other guys can do, but at a much more affordable price.

Unfortunately with a portable USB hard drive there really isn't a whole lot to set one product from another. Most companies are using the same hard drive and they are also using the same interface (in this case USB 3.0) so the difference between companies is sometimes very small. What I can say about the D10 from Silicon Power is it offers you everything everyone else does but its going to do it at a lower price without having to give up any options. At the time of publishing you can find this drive online for ~$80.00 USD which is a great deal for a speedy and portable hard drive (Silicon Power also offers a 1TB version of this drive and that can be found for ~$95.00 US online at publishing time).

The software behind the Silicon Power D10 is pretty decent and is more than sufficient to get your files backed up quickly. I wouldn't say the software included is the most advanced software out there, but I found it very easy to get everything setup and running like I wanted without having to read the manuals.

At the end of the day it is very easy for me to recommend the Silicon Power Diamond D10 USB 3.0 portable hard drive. The fact that it feels well built, works like advertised, and is a very good value has easily earned it our "Editor's Choice - Gold" award.

Pros:

  • Good Performance Thanks to USB 3.0
  • Only One Cable Needed
  • Good Quality Construction

Cons:

  • Nothing Major
