Testing and Final Thoughts

Testing:

Testing the CM Storm Speed-RXL mouse surface and the Skorpion mouse bungee is straight forward.  I would just use them as intended and see how they did.  I decided to test them together as they offer an affordable combination that should help with your day-to-day tasks as well as some hardcore gaming sessions.  The Speed-RXL mouse pad performed very well.  Every mouse I used on it tracked great. The CM Storm Duracloth surface made every movement effortless and smooth – it was like having a hard-surfaced pad slick with furniture polish and mouse skates on your mouse.  Its huge size made gaming great!  I never ran off the edge of the surface and missed a kill-shot (well not because I ran out of surface anyhow).

Bundled Up

The Speed-RXL did not even budge on my desk, thanks to the 100% rubber back. The Duracloth surface also did a great job of repelling any liquids that might come in contact with it and cleaned up easily with a damp cloth.

Back

The Skorpion mouse bungee is a very unique item.  It works great with braided and standard cables. The hardest part of using it is figuring out how much cable to have coming out of the flexible arm to the mouse.  After a few tries I had that figured out.  It definitely does what it is supposed to.  It keeps your mouse cord away from other items on your desk and allows you to have enough un-restricted cable to reach every corner of your pad.  When you use the Skorpion, it eliminates your mouse cord getting tangled with all the other stuff.   When gaming, I hate getting my mouse cord caught on something as this usually gets me killed.  The Skorpion can be taken apart if you need to do some weird modifications, but it is snapped together tightly.

The feet on the Skorpion did not slide around on my desk.  The metal weight in it is a great help with this.  In fact, it was almost impossible to turn over or flip the Skorpion.  The arm that holds the mouse cord is rubber and flexes some if you reach the limit of your mouse cord.

Conclusion:

The CM Storm Speed-RXL mouse pad with the Duracloth surface was a pleasure to use.  Its large surface area is great for gaming and cleans up easily.  That being said, even with the few weeks that I had the pad, I could see signs that the edges were stating to fray.  As the pad is made from rubber and cloth it could get damaged if you don’t take good care of it.  It can be found on the internet for $20, and this is a fair price for such a large pad – but with some quality issues potentially lurking after a few months use, it could be a bit cheaper to offer better value.  Most mouse surfaces I compared the Speed-RXL to were around the $10-12 range that were constructed of similar materials and were roughly the same size.
