Introduction:
A few months ago we had the chance to take a look at the Diamond D10 750GB USB 3.0 HDD from Silicon Power (our full review can be found here). When we reviewed the Diamond D10 it was the first external hard drive that we had the chance to look at from Silicon Power and we found ourselves pleasantly surprised with it and overall it did very well in our testing.
Today we are looking at another external USB 3.0 drive from Silicon Power, the Diamond D03 1TB USB 3.0 HDD. These drives are somewhat similar; however the Diamond D03 that we will be reviewing features a little different case design and a larger hard drive inside.
Let's start off with taking a closer look at the Silicon Power Diamond D03 and see how it compares to the Diamond D10 which we reviewed in the past.
First Impressions:
Obviously it wouldn't be BCCHardware is we didn't rip off the covers and void the warranty and see what's inside. After popping the enclosure open we find that Silicon Power has put a Samsung 1TB drive inside (which is a very popular choice for external hard drives).
As you can see in the pictures below, the drive is plugged into the USB 3.0 module (on the top of the drive) which is very small and makes the overall size of this product not much bigger than the size of the hard drive itself.
I have included a "side by side" comparison picture of the Diamond D03 and the previously reviewed Diamond D10 (full review can be viewed here).
As you can see below, the Diamond D03 1TB drive is even smaller than the Diamond D10 750 GB drive. The difference isn't huge, but when it comes to portable devices, the smaller the better.
So there we go, that's what the Silicon Power Diamond D03 is all about, let's move onto the next section for more details.
