Ford to Begin Autonomous Car Testing

After much planning, research, and engineering Ford plans to begin testing autonomous cars in Europe sometime in 2017. While testing in Europe is on the horizon, plans for getting self driving cars in the US are still a ways out as Ford plans to debut ride-sharing fleets in 2021. As more manufacturers enter the self driving car race it seems Tesla is still miles ahead of everyone else.

To help speed development of self-driving cars, Chief Executive Mark Fields said Ford is hiking investments in Silicon Valley technology firms, tripling its investment in semi-autonomous systems, and more than doubling the size of its Palo Alto research team while expanding its campus in Silicon Valley.
