Sova Cable

Cable to Plug into Sova

Installation:

Installation was quite simple on the software end, you just have to go to the Sova’s page and scroll down to the software and download their Swarm Software. You can also install the talk software if you have other ROCCAT devices you can and want to link them. After the software is installed, you then plug in the two USB ends of your keyboard cable to your PC and then you plug in your mouse to the Sova and run the cable through the groove on the back and use the cable management to keep it in place where you want it and so it doesn’t slip off and crash into the ground.

Software:

The software is easy to use. Once you download and install it, open it to find the main screen and it will show the compatible devices that you currently have plugged in. For this review, we will only be focusing on the Sova. The main screen has three tabs you can choose from: general features, key assignment and key illumination. Under general features we find options for multiple sound feedback, LED feedback, Character repeat and a reset to factory option. Clicking over to the key assignment section will give you the options of changing the function of each key, including the shift+ function. This section will also give you the ability to manage and create your own macros and profiles.

To set a macro in Swarm is a simple matter; all you have to do is select the key you want to change and then you can either make the change to the easy-shift[+] function or the primary function (you can only use the drag and drop method on the shift[+] function) and then drag and drop your new selection for the key from the pre-made menus or go and create one yourself. To do that you need to go to the macro manager and then either add a new macro or change an existing one. To record you must hit the “record” button and then hit the keys you want and then stop recording and set your delays and loops to what you desire and lastly name it. You can also change a key’s primary function fast by hitting “remap” and hitting the key you want it changed to and then press “ok”. There is also preset collections of macros for individual games, to give an example of the effect; if you use the get in and out key it will set the length of the “E” key stroke to 50 seconds so it will open and exit things in game but you cannot use it for your primary function.

The third selection is the key illumination section and it includes all the lighting effects available to the Sova. The lighting presets include, fully lit, blinking, breathing, impulse, ripple FX and heartbeat. Within the presets, you can choose how bright they are and whether the LEDs are lit or not. If you go over to the custom-made button you can choose which keys are lit and what effects are on. To do so you simply need to press on the key of your choice and adjust the options to your whim.

The only thing really left is the options button and that holds options for downloading and checking for updates, monitoring through the Swarm app for some stats even though this is not supported on the Sova as well as a help section.

There are also sections on the top for Swarm connect, Alien FX and talk FX.
