Nougat is Now on 1% of Devices

Fragmentation. It's perhaps Androids biggest problem. Google has been trying to fix it, but with so many devices from so many different companies and so many different hardware and software combinations, it's an elephant in a very crowded room. The proof is that the latest version of Nougat has now topped out on a mere 1% of devices. Apple's update rollout is much more inclusive as they control the hardware and software while Google only controls software.

As we can see, the aging Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich versions remain stagnant with a total of 1.4% of all Google Play Android devices. Jelly Bean's usage continues to shrink with a combined 7.6%, compared with last month's 8.1%.
