Introduction:

Today we are looking a new mouse from a little-known company over here in North America.  We've got the latest mouse from Hades Gaming on the bench today and look at the latest optical mouse to come out of this company.  While this company is not that well known over here, they still seem to make pretty solid products and are worth a look - especially if you can score one of these cheap on eBay.  In this review we'll be covering this "Counter Strike" inspired mouse and see if it's as impressive as it looks.  According to press material and promotional images, this is a pretty impressive mouse.  Keep on reading as we find out.

Back Of The Box

Hades has put together a nice mouse, a sleek package and a very decent overall presentation with the Paris H3.  The back of the box includes all the details (I'm assuming) about this mouse and some familiar logos.  CounterStrike and Valve are represented in English but pretty much everything else is not.  Before we get farther into this review and the Paris H3, let's quickly take a moment and find out about Hades Gaming.

About Hades Gaming:

Is high resolution the main feature of gaming mouse? Before 2005, the answer is yes. However, after 2005, the answer is "follow standards". What is standard? Who did the standard? Why that is standard?

We believe, new concept brings new idea, new idea brings new technologies and patents. If we are focus on "GAME", we must not only design for gamer but design by gamer. Products are not only test by QA&QC team but pro gamers. We are not only make money from gamers, but be the sponsor in Gaming world.

The Bundle:

The Hades Gaming Paris H3 bundle isn't much of a bundle, which is typical of mice.  In the box, we find the mouse with a fairly stout cord as well as a manual (not English) that also houses a driver/software CD.  The H3 mouse requires software in order to program buttons and sensitivity but doesn't require installation of the software.  The software is ran from the CD and once setting are changed they are saved to the mouse.  This enables you to specify custom macros, button functions and sensitivity and then be able to transport it quickly and easily to any tournament machine you are playing on.  I was also surprised to see that Hades Gaming has included the full-patched version of CounterStrike on the CD.  Unfortunately, this is not in English either so installation may not go as smoothly as you'd hope.

On the next page we'll take a closer look at this mouse and cover the specifications and features.

Closer Look:

The Hades Gaming H3 Paris has an interesting feel.  While it is physically quite a large mouse, it feels narrow in your hand, but not as narrow as the NZXT Avatar mouse.  Although it has a fairly straight-ahead look, it is definitely a right-handed mouse only as evidenced by the mouse buttons for your thumb and the gentle curve of the main body.  While it is quite narrow, and slightly shorter in length that my tried and true Logitec G5, it has a bit of a hump to the back that actually hits my palm in an odd sort of way.

After prolonged intense use, I find that this mouse actually makes my hand go a bit numb, but I'm sure that I'm the 1 out of 1,000,000 that this would affect this way.  About 10 years ago now, I broke my hand in a horse breaking accident and my hand never healed correctly.  A bone in my hand snapped in half and the two pieces weren't lined up properly when the bone healed.  This actually has cause the bone pieces to overlap slightly and gives me a bit of a knot on both the palm and back of my hand.

There are a pair of thumb buttons on the left side of the mouse that require a little extra push at first, but once this mouse was broke in, they clicked quite easily - although not too easily.  I loathe mice that click too easily on the side buttons as it can cause a lot of issues when typing a post in Wordpress as bumping the "back" button causes you to exit out of your post editor and lose any chances that haven't been saved.  As you can see in the pictures above, the mouse wheel has a nice glow that can actually be turned off in the software as we'll see on the next page.  Just behind the mouse wheel on the top is a DPI switch selector that can be assigned to other functions if you desire.  Lastly the bottom is smooth, uneventful and houses the 1,600dpi optical sensor.

Features:

Yes, Paris H3 is the one mode mouse, but this mode is such powerful for overcome all enemies. Just the same as Ares H1, all the settings are stored in the mouse. There is no driver has to be installed. By the green Paris H3 utility, you can define all the button functions by yourself. Yes, you are design your own gaming weapon. Why The Paris H3 is such powerful? After you know the new features below, you will know.

  • New keep shooting function: No. of shoots, pressing time and delay time can be re-defined. Not only the mouse key but also keyboard single letter can be kept shooting.
  • Build-in 5 Macros (125 byte/macro), mouse click, scrolling and keyboard input can be recorded. And there are 5 execution methods to output the command.
  • Build-in 8 Scripts (4 for 256 byte, 3 for 512 byte and 1 for 1024 byte), no matter mouse movement, keyboard input, HID calling, compound command can be saving into one mouse click. And there are 8 execution methods.

Macros and Script are the very powerful function, however, the complicated and difficult setting process makes user do not want to touch it. But now, do not worry about it, Hades-Gaming makes the setting become very easy. Just a simple logic process, everyone can writes his own Macro and Script. Come on, Let's try it.

On the last page we'll take a quick look at the software and test this mouse out.

Hades Gaming Software:

Just like the NXZT Avatar, the Hades H3 Paris doesn't ship with drivers or need drivers.  Instead it ships with software that allows you to program your mouse and then have your mouse carry the button assignments, profiles and sensitivity settings on board.  This is extremely handy if you have to sit down at a tournament machine and aren't allowed to install drivers.  If you're mouse is setup up for macros and other custom functions with the software once, it should carry through to other machines that it is plugged into.

One thing I noticed that was available in the button configuration is the "Disabled" feature.  I thought this would be fun to disable all of the buttons, save it to the mouse and then let someone else use the "button-less" mouse.  As it turns out, Hades requires that you have one button be set to "L-Button".  It doesn't have to be the Left Button though, it can be the mouse wheel scrolling.  This level of customization is quite nice for advanced users that really want to screw up their settings.

Usage & Testing:

I use the Logitec G5 on my main system, but still use the older Hades H1 mouse on my test bench.  The H1 has proven to be reliable and more than adequate and the H3 is no different.  I've done a lot of gaming, a bunch of photo editing and countless hours of other office productivity applications with the H3 and have been pretty satisfied.  The H3 Paris is a nice mouse that tracks well and has some nice customizable settings, but it still hasn't replaced my tried, true and rather worn G5.  Because of the "hump" in the back and my poorly healed hand, I find prolonged use of this mouse to get a little uncomfortable, but my wife "Xena" has a very positive opinion of the shape and design of this mouse.

My favorite mouse is still the Logitech G5 due to its lightly larger size, lower profile and it fits my hand a bit better.  Is the G5 actually a better mouse?  I can't say, but I've been very impressed with the H3.  It delivers an incredibly customizable experience and if you're a serious gamer and you need some macros on your mouse; the H3 is one of the few driverless choices that will leave you happy - and enable you to pack your killer macros to another machine.

Conclusion:

This is the second product from Hades Gaming that we've looked at, and while we skipped from the H1 to the H3, I can't help but feel that not a lot has change or improved in this mouse.  The H1 has a couple of different modes, higher dpi resolution and a more comfortable fit - while the H3 has a racier design, excellent tracking, and the same customizable feature set.  This unit is CounterStrike happy though and if you're still into CS, you'll probably enjoy showing off your colors with this unit.

While the H3 Paris isn't my favorite mouse, it's still a good choice for anyone looking to pick up a new gaming mouse with a lot of features and excellent performance.

Pros:

  • High quality mouse
  • Excellent tracking performance
  • Tons of customization options
  • Free game included with a mouse!

Cons:

  • Documentation shipped non-English
  • Software shipped non-English
  • Limited availability
