Post by: Zeus on October 18, 2006, 08:10:49 PM
That's right people!  The headline says it.  Newegg is blowing out FX-55 SanDiego (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103527) processors for a screaming $199USD with free 3 day Fedex Shipping.  They sweeten the deal even more by throwing in a free 250GB HDD if you pay the shipping.  Check it out and order up (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103527)!

darn, I tried to order it but ran into this little doosie at the end of the sign up form:

Newegg.com does not offer International/Canadian shipping options at this time.

too bad, that would have made an amazing HTPC chip, would have been great for encoding to H.264 and XViD

If any of our fine friends in the states would purchase it, I would gladly paypal the cash over, and we could probably work out a deal on the 250 GB hard drive (like keeping it) since I just bought 2 new drives. PM me and let me know.

Sounds like somebody wants an FX-55 pretty badly.   ;)

hmm, now I'm thinking. scratch that. If i'm going to build a new machine, it may as well be a core 2 duo for that price, then just get some decent cooling and overclock. Hmm, and E6300 and a decent water cooling setup would be just what the doctor ordered, then move this machine I'm on to the HTPC.

now I have some thinking to do, way to go :P

It looks like a fantastic deal, but remember...this is only a single core cpu.  The Toledo core OEM 4400+ is dual core with 1mb cache per core and sells for $199 as well, which I think is the better deal.

I just use the address for FedEx in Sweetgrass.  Then I can buy items that can only be bought within the US and I get much cheaper shipping.  Honesly, it's not that hard to get 'forbidden American fruit'.  You just have to be creative.  Let me know if you want anything shipped there, and I"ll let you know when I'm going there next.

That's not a bad idea - sending to Fedex.  I personally send things to my mother-in-law or to a friend of mind down in the US.

I"m going to Sweetgrass to get an engine and a few car parts on Dec. 6-8.  If anyone want's to get anything from the US, pm me right away,  and we'll work out the details.  It cost's $5 us to leave a package at fedex, and whatever gst is.  Porbably won't be duty.

Ya, car parts are 1/3 of the price out of the US.  If you have a biggie, it pays well to order it from the US and go get it.  PS never ship across the line with UPS.  Can you say extortion???

I shipped a 40 dollar moniter bracket off ebay across the border, wasn't supposed to go with UPS, but the stupid seller forgot and shipped it UPS anyways. Shouldn't have been a problem cause UPS will bring packages worth 30 dollars or less across the border for free, and before shipping the bracket was under 30, but the seller included his shipping and handling charge when he declared the value.

anyways, I received a nice 30 dollar bill from UPS for bringing it across the border for me, turned a good deal into a not so good of a deal

Yeah, and from my past experience, UPS does not take good care of electronic equipment. It could have been worse if it was DHL.

I don't think any courier system takes great care of any packages, I've received packages from Purolator that literally look like they're been backed over by a truck (side of box was "missing" and was completely wrapped in tape to hold the remaining 3 sides together), I've also got boxes that were completely soaked (electronics + water = bad match)

probably the worst care of a package I've seen is from Air Canada Cargo, we had to have a CRT moniter "emergency" shipped, and when it arrived it was completely shattered, they said it must have got "dropped", but it looked more like it was thrown off the plane while it was flying past
