General Mayhem / Re: Worst Christmas Tech Presents Ever
« on: December 20, 2016, 07:53:12 AM »
I've always fought hard for people to not buy me tech related Christmas presents. Give me gift cards (Amazon please!) if you really want to get me something for tech.

My grandfather once bought me a $30 2 meter USB cable and a $90 1 meter Monster HDMI cable from Futureshop.

I can't see anyone in advertising looking at that finished product and saying "yup, that's exactly what I was going for, it's perfection!" Without planning on making it a bad commercial to begin with.

My guess is that it was a drunken idea that came out of the MS staff Christmas party, and by the sounds of it, they recorded it while hungover the next day.

Did you get a chance to type on the ultrabook? Just wondering if the keyboard is actually viable, or more of a gimmick. Looking for a replacement for my Asus Transformer

LAN & General Gaming / Brink - What do you think?
« on: April 04, 2011, 10:26:53 PM »
I think this game looks great. 16 player co op, 8 vs 8 matches, environments that are actually usable, and xp that transfers from multi-player to single player.

anyone else thinking of playing this one? I am for sure.

be sure to be checking steam every day between now and January 2nd. they have the Holiday Sale going on, and amazing deals on tons of games. The first day, I picked up the valve complete pack in the morning for my fiance for $25. Now it is sitting at $50, which is still 72% off its normal price.

If you are looking for a cool platformer, check out the indie game super meat boy. tons of fun, but I can't for the life of me understand how a chunk of meat could continue to live in a world with sooooo many meat saws  ;D

oh if anyone isnt on my steam friends list, add me. account name is solton@coterie.ca

General Mayhem / Re: Craigslist - Kijiji
« on: December 02, 2010, 09:27:30 PM »
I've sold a few old desktops on Kijiji, never had an issue, and bought my camera with lens (d50 with  Tamron 70-300) for $300 on craigslist Edmonton.

I think the trick to smooth transaction, for me at least, is getting the persons phone number from the start and talking to them instead of emailing to make sure there are no misunderstandings.

Operating Systems & Software / Re: Backup Schemes
« on: May 29, 2010, 05:05:00 AM »
If you are looking for a free program, check out that cobian backup I mentioned, its open source, and extremely flexible and robust. I've used it to back up files for everything from large corporations to peoples pictures movies and music.

I'm surprised that so many people are still only using local backups. I have talked to 2 people in the last week or so that have had house fires and lost everything, even the backups they thought they were making.

by the way, I blame skype and a horrible, and I mean horrible recording setup for the utter failure of that original episode 2 (way back in 2006 or 2007 wasn't it?). I spent about 10 hours trying to normalize volume on everyone in post, but you're right, there was absolutely no amount of editing that could save it.

News / Re: [Frontpage News]NZXT Spring Prize Fling
« on: May 27, 2010, 06:29:43 PM »
Lets see, 5 posts in the next 5 days. Sitting here listening to my fans in my case (cause I am too lazy to reach around back and turn them down with the externally mounted fan controls). I was thinking a touch screen fan control would be nice. I know I don't need another case. My case is around 5 years old, but it doesn't have enough scratches in it yet.
And now that I see SoltoN has entered the race, I didn't want him to get a prize just by default :P
Lastly it's a rainy day outside. No yard work to take me away from the computer today.

ya, we cant let that SoltoN guy win. Plus, that scrub Andrew that lives next door to you has a pretty crappy case, and could probably use your hand me down :D

Welcome to the runnnings! (notice the extra n for extra winningness!)

I got nothing...
