General Hardware / Re: Zalman VGA cooler iproblem
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:39:33 PM »
what cooler are you using?

I have read several people have problems installing the new VF3000 coolers on ATI cards.  I read several instances of people bricking their 5850/5870 cards with this cooler.

Personally I have used the VF2000 on a couple 4890s without any problems

good luck everyone!

I would love a shot at those premium cables  8)  Congrats on a full year of WTU!  E-mail sent for a second entry.

News / Re: [Frontpage News]Thermaltake Element V Full Tower Case

It looks like a pretty good value for a full tower case.  I have had the chance to work with the Element S and Element T and they both have pretty good build quality and features.  This looks like a larger version of the Element T with some nice extras like the fan control.

General Mayhem / Re: [Frontpage News]Is it time to ditch Windows XP?

my office still uses XP  ::).  I doubt they will consider upgrading until the economy picks up.  I will probably put XP on the PC I'm building for my wife but that is only becase I have a copy of XP that I'm not currently using.  If I had to buy a new OS it would definately be Win 7.

Case Modding & Cooling / Re: Anyone using a Coolit Domino A.L.C.?

I think if Coolit can get their QA/QC program up to where you don't hear about leaks their products will start to take off.  You can see from the Corsair H50 that there is a market for these self contained liquid coolers.  Corsair has done very well because they aren't known for their quality and you never hear about leaks.  I have run into a single thread that showed evidence of a H50 leaking.

the eco looks like a nice improvement over the Domino.  As long as it doesn't have leak issues I think it will do pretty well

I have a domino that I have messed around with a bit but the leak horror stories have made me hesitant to keep it installed for daily use.

News / Re: [Frontpage News]Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler
« on: May 30, 2010, 10:43:53 AM »
I have a couple of self contained units (Domino and Asetek cooler w/ 120 rad) and my high end tower coolers beat them out a couple of degree.  This nice thing about the self contained units is that they clear out a lot of space around the CPU and RAM.  I have seen some threads where people have dissected their Corsair H50 and added new tubing and a res and actually dropped their temps quite a bit.  This would be a relatively cheap mod so I have kicked this idea around a bit with my Asetek cooler since it is essentialy the same as the H50.  I would really enjoy messing around with a high end liquid cooling setup but ever time I price it out the dream dies pretty quickly.  If I am going to drop that much money on my PC I would rather get a high end graphics card, SSD, etc.
