News / Re: [Frontpage News]Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler
« on: May 31, 2010, 09:28:59 AM »
I have a couple of self contained units (Domino and Asetek cooler w/ 120 rad) and my high end tower coolers beat them out a couple of degree.  This nice thing about the self contained units is that they clear out a lot of space around the CPU and RAM.  I have seen some threads where people have dissected their Corsair H50 and added new tubing and a res and actually dropped their temps quite a bit.  This would be a relatively cheap mod so I have kicked this idea around a bit with my Asetek cooler since it is essentialy the same as the H50.  I would really enjoy messing around with a high end liquid cooling setup but ever time I price it out the dream dies pretty quickly.  If I am going to drop that much money on my PC I would rather get a high end graphics card, SSD, etc.
If you do it, post your results; it would be interesting to hear how it turns out.

General Mayhem / Re: [Frontpage News]Quit Facebook?

I'm already done with facebook.  Deleted my account a few weeks ago. Mostly due to privacy/copyright issues but also just the way that it is growing out of control.  People sped hours a day on the stupid thing.

How can we even be sure that they delete our information?

Always suspect those who yell the loudest against piracy.  >:D

Case Modding & Cooling / Re: Anyone using a Coolit Domino A.L.C.?

Thanks for the replies. Looking at my case (HAF 922), I don't think the Domino will fit with the 200mm side fan in place. Might try it in my 2nd or 3rd computer if I get some spare time.

I just set up a Windows Home Server v2. Right now, it only has a 500GB drive in it. I also have a eSATA drive I backup critical files on.

I would buy one if I had the cash to spare. Love my Touch; the iPad would be that much better.  :D

I won an EVGA GTX 480 autographed by Jen-Hsun Huang the president of Nvidia in a folding contest.

Case Modding & Cooling / Anyone using a Coolit Domino A.L.C.?

I know it's not the latest & greatest, but I got a good price on it (free). Anyone using one and if so on what cpu? I have an oc'd q9550 and I'm not sure that it could keep it cool.

All About Folding. / Re: I'm folding! Are you?
« on: May 28, 2010, 04:02:27 PM »
I have been using ATI cards for a while which are horrible for folding so I haven't folded in a while.  I recented hopped back over to the green team so I should probably re-download the client.

I swapped out my 5850 Toxic for a GTX 480 because the 5850 only got as many ppd as my 9600 GSO! The 480 is pumping out ~14500 ppd.

I don't know if it still holds true or not but the 9600 GSO used to be the best card for the price vs. PPD.  I'm still living in an apartment with free electricity so...  I'd imagine I'll probably slow down once I see my first electric bill!

Yes the 9600 GSO is a great folding card for the money; I still get ~4500 ppd from mine. It's also quiet unlike the GTX 480 when folding.
