Ok everyone, as promised we will be holding a Post CES Giveaway.

In typically HTL fashion we are giving you a bunch of ways to gain entries into the contest.  We plan to add the 3DMark portion of the contest later.  We have having some technical difficulties with 3DMark but hopefully we will get it sorted out soon.  Keep an eye on this thread for an update on this portion of the contest.

General Mayhem / [Frontpage News]Windows 7 Team Holds Funeral and Dance
« on: September 13, 2010, 07:33:55 AM »
What do you do if you're a part of the Windows Phone 7 team and you have just release the RTM version of your OS?  Hold a funeral for BlackBerry and iPhone - apparently.  They had a funeral procession complete with a hearse and iPhone/Paul-bearers.   Kind'a lame if you ask me.  Still, the "Thriller" dance they also did during the parade almost redeems them.

I'm not a fan of cell phones in general so to me this is just plain stupid.

General Mayhem / [Frontpage News]No Electronics on US Flights?
« on: December 28, 2009, 05:24:26 PM »

Since the attempted terrorist attack over the holidays it appears that using electronics on you next flight to the USA will be restricted.  It's not guaranteed that you won't be able to use any of your gadgets, but it doesn't look promising.  Make sure you know the rules before you pull out your new DSi on your way down to CES, or you may get arrested for trying to have some fun.

Pretty soon you won't be allowed to wear underwear on a plane.

General Mayhem / [Frontpage News]Don`t be a part of the System
« on: December 05, 2009, 11:50:11 AM »
Hopefully this will make your day a bit brighter.  Remember, don't be part of the system.  It's out to get you and if you ever need to escape, throw in on the ground. . .

Good one  ;D

General Mayhem / [Frontpage News]You`ve Been Banned
« on: November 13, 2009, 09:23:45 AM »

Microsoft has just banned as many a 1 million XBOX Live gamers this week as they've discovered that these gamers have modified their XBOX's to play illegally downloaded discs. So far not much information has been released but this is probably one of the biggest bans in console history and I'm sure there will be a ton of angry users. More on this story can. . .

I heard many of these people were playing pirated versions of Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 before the street date. That's a good way to draw attention to yourself  ::)

General Hardware / [Frontpage News]R.I.P. Laserdiscs
« on: January 17, 2009, 06:01:18 PM »

The Laserdisc era is over, Pioneer is stopping production of their line of laserdisc players. Chances are good you thought that laserdisc had died long ago, but apparently there was still some demand overseas for these players by users who didn't want to get rid of their laserdiscs quite yet. More on this news over here.

   Pioneer is ce. . .

Wow, I had no idea Pioneer was still making LaserDisc Players. I haven't seen one for sale in years. I still have mine though :)

General Mayhem / [Frontpage News]Apple Goes Up In Smoke
« on: August 15, 2008, 04:43:37 PM »

It appears that an Apple employee all-night party got out of hand last night, or maybe someone was mad at Apple for crappy iPhone 3G battery life, or possibly a random fire broke out.  Either way there was a 3 alarm blaze at Apple's Cupertino HQ.  That's certainly too bad for sure as there was a lot of damage to the building.  Thankfully nothing of value (in terms of electronics) was damaged in the blaze. . . Apple products aren't worth much are they?

The link is bad.

General Hardware / [Frontpage News]USB 3.0 is Ready
« on: August 15, 2008, 04:42:11 PM »
Intel has sent out a press release saying that USB 3.0 is ready to go, and could be demonstrated very soon. The new USB 3.0 which is also called SuperSpeed USB will offer speeds up to 600 MB/s should be hitting the market later on in 2009, but the upgrade will be a welcome one to USB developers. More on this can be found over at TGDaily.

Of course that is theoretical speed and will never be fully realized  :tickedoff: How many of todays USB 2.0 devices are there that don't even reach USB 1.1 speeds.

General Mayhem / [Frontpage News]Can you fix my Computer at Home?
« on: June 05, 2008, 08:36:11 AM »

I found this article pretty funny, and I'm sure alot of our BCCHardware readers will as well since quite a few work in the tech-industry. There is nothing like having someone ask you for a little help, and having it turn out to be hours and hours of work. I'm sure most people who work in a tech job have encountered this, and for some techs this is more of a daily occurrence I'm sure. Feel free to share you. . .

A few years ago I sold a cheap basic computer to a coworker who was looking to get his first PC. I gave him a crash course in the basics and told him to call if he had any questions. A few months later he calls me to report that his computer was having problems starting. I told him to bring it with him to work, I would take it home after my shift and take a look at the problem.

Well I guess he had forgotten to remove the monitor cable from the onboard graphics port at one time or another because it was partially broken off of the motherboard causing the problem. Of course he totally denied it.

For all of you CoD4 players still out there, there is some good news.  NVIDIA is said to be releasing a new free map pack on June 5.  Along with new maps is the 1.6 patch to fix some more issues that have been plaguing the Marines and the other guys.  More info here.

NVIDIA is making it possible for PC players to download the map pack. . .
So free for PC users yet XBOX 360 users have to pay for it?

General Hardware / [Frontpage News]MSI Has Released Wind
« on: June 02, 2008, 07:35:45 AM »

The ASUS Eee PC has been more popular that I would have ever thought it could be - especially with such a small screen and low resolution, but this sub-notebook market is booming and other companies want to get in on it as well.  Bit-Tech has MSI's sub-notebook offering on their bench today  - the MSI Wind and it's pretty.  Is it any good?  Find out for yours. . .
When I release wind people hold their noses  ;D

Contests & Hot Deals / [Frontpage News]Free Stuff Tuesday
« on: November 20, 2007, 08:41:45 AM »

I know we all like free stuff.  I sure do anyway.  Although free RAM isn't quite as sweet as it was when a 2GB kit cost $300, it's still nice to win free RAM like the SuperTalent 2GB kit that BigBruin is giving away!  You have to sign up for a newsletter, but it may be worth it for free RAM.

Free is good :)
