Happy Birthday Xena! Hope you have a good one!

That is one strange looking case....definitely unique though. Does the snail shape have some sort of significance for Lian Li?? If not, I'll assume the goofball that designed it has some sort of mollusk fetish.

As Zeus said earlirer, if your using 2 sticks of ram try using only one stick. Try each of the memory slots in the mobo also. If the first stick of memory doesn't work try the other one in each slot. If that doesn't work try some some different ram.

I say it's the RAM....

ding ding ding I think we may have a winner  ;D

I believe your motherboard has an award bios...a quick google search found this...
Repeating (endless loop) -- Memory error. Check for improperly seated or missing memory.

with a static strap
or the possibly less effective poor mans way....ground yourself by touching the unpainted metal frrame of the computer case before handling any of the components, and always try to handle the components by the pcb without touching any of the circuitry.

whats the wattage of the psu's that you tried....could be that neither of them have enough juice to power all your current hardware. If they are low wattage and/or generic psu's that could be your problem.

What's the specs of your setup and what power supplies did you try?

That is wierd...
I would think that if you have the same problem with 2 different motherboards then chances are it's not the motherboard. You've tried different IDE cables on each of the IDE ports?
What kind of mobo is it?
Maybe try going into the bios with the drives plugged into the IDE ports and see if anything looks fishy.

Does this happen with both IDE ports on the mobo?

yep I'll probably get a 160GB drive when I can find a good deal on one. 40 for xp, 40 for linux, 40 for solaris, and split remaining 40 for the rest.

That's wicked cool man.  Download the beta 2 of Visual Studio 2005,  it comes free to msdn subscribers.  I must say VS2005 rocks.

Don't know if they're still doing it but you may still be able to get it sent to you for free. I ordered it in April and got it mid-May. You get 2 DVD's (Team Suite and SQLServer Developer Ed.) and 1 CD (Team Foundation Server). Here's the link....

I know slack comes with lilo because that's what I used before. Not sure if I'll stick with that or go with something I've never used before like grub. I need to do some more research because I'm still not sure about the partitions. My current solaris install needs 2 partitions, 1 for the os and a small 10mb or so x86 boot partition, so I'll assume I don't need that small partition since I'll be using lilo or grub. Still not sure but I think I'm looking at...

boot partition
xp partition
linux partition
linux swap partition
solaris partition
fat partition for sharing
