LAN & General Gaming / LANParty at BoneRaks! Version 2.0
« on: October 19, 2009, 11:19:44 PM »
Good day all.
I should be posting a reminder rather than the announcement. Some of you may have heard. I am having another LANparty this Friday October 23rd and Saturday October 24th. Again it is at my place in the garage (still need to get a little more wood for the stove).
Games this year will be Supreme Commander on Friday, And Call of Duty 4 on Saturday. With a pinch of Unreal Tournament 2004 sprinkled here and there. I have room for about 16-18 people in the garage, and overflow in the house. Tables already setup, just add computer.

And with the Launch of Windows 7 this week. This will also be an official Windows 7 LaunchLAN Party! So the first 10 people get a free Windows 7 tote bag.

And to sum it up:

Who: Everyone I have gamed with at VulcLAN is welcomed
What: Two day Supreme Commander, Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 2004 LANParty
Where: BoneRak's house in Lethbridge Alberta
When: October 23+24th 2009.
Why: Cause Winters coming, It's the end of the week, I got a set of Psyko audio 5.1 headphones to show off, I'm still green at CoD4 and people like that, and lastly a LANParty is nothing but fun.

Hope to see you in RL (Real Life)

For those who are a fan of opera *cough* bonerak *cough*
the beta is out for the latest version of Opera. Apparently with a
bunch of new improvements as well as a new look, and the best part of
increased speed and performance. Hopefully this will bring about a
revival of Opera as I have used it before and may start again. Get it all at opera.com.

   Welcome to Op. . .

Sweeeeeeet! I was just thinking the other day how much I was missing using the content blocker in Opera when I open up hotmail. I am forced with Google Chrome to see the side banner adds, and that sometimes is distracting.

« on: December 12, 2007, 10:53:54 AM »
Here is one link to the patch 1.1 for Unreal Tournament 3. It really made the game run smoother for me. That should help me get a few more head shots. Now to find a sniper server to test it on.

Operating Systems & Software / What happened to 64 bit Vista?
« on: January 25, 2007, 09:43:34 PM »
I got an email the other day from one of my suppliers telling me what versions of Windows Vista they will be having at the end of the month. One thing that struck me as odd is that they were not going to be having any 64 bit versions! Now why would you want to sell a 32 bit version that will be out of date in a year?

General Hardware / Can one rail handle 100W?
« on: November 27, 2006, 10:11:32 PM »
That is the question I was wondering. How many watts can a 20 AWG and 18 AWG line handle for a 12 Volt line? Just guessing at it I would say at least 350 Watts for the 18 gauge as that is what most computer power cables are. but that is just a guess.

LAN & General Gaming / Hello from Fragapalooza 2006
« on: July 27, 2006, 08:13:54 PM »
Good day all. This year for www.fragapalooza.com , I would have to say has been the smoothest network setup so far. I will let you know after the event if they were able to maintain the network.
The gift bags this year had a tone of stuff in it. I can now wear a new T-Shirts every day and a cool set of polarized Sunglasses.

Well back to the fun, only 3 more days of non-stop gaming to go.

LAN & General Gaming / Bargin bin game with a plague
« on: July 12, 2006, 12:20:50 PM »
Bought the game Pariah for $8. It's on the unreal engine so I though how could I lose. Then I scanned your site to see if anyone played it. and you had a warning on the copy protection.
http://www.bcchardware.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2008&Itemid=2

Now what to do:
[A:] Return the $8 game
[B:] Install it and hope for the best
[C:] get other users input
[D:] Install it on a windows Visa computer in the mean time  (then I can't return it)
[E:] steam off the copyright sticker, install the game, play it, return it and get my $8 back. Oh and copy the CD just in-case I want to play it again.

General Hardware / [Frontpage News]RIAA Contains File Sharing

He he he. This story gave me a good chuckle this morning I just had to share it. Apparently RIAA thinks they've contained all illegal file sharing. Quite a statement.

RIAA chief executive Mitch Bainwol made the somewhat optimistic comments, adding that although CD sales. . .

Give an honest way for a person to buy the one song they want from an artist without buying a new coaster for your glass of cool aid, and you make some sales. I haven't played on itunes for a long time but enough people are liking it from what I have heard.
Of course if some one loosened the blinders the RIAA are using. They might realize more people are getting on the internet all the time. And my personal guess by how many viruses I remove from file sharing computers.. Songs are still being sung even more then before.

General Hardware / [Frontpage News]Bresnan Still Using Win9x

During one of my frequent channel surfs, I stumbled across the Bresnan advertising channel which displayed the message, "System Properties - Out of Virtual Memory".  If I'm not mistaken, the error message looks like it belongs to a win9x machine given the style.  I found this quite hilarious myself and thought I'd share it with the world.  Click the link for a bigger picture.  The channel is from an analog signal and is kind of fuzzy, so sorry about the. . .

When you only have a computer doing one simple task, I see old OS's being used for that. The content of the program gets updated but the computer it's self sits in a closet working like a trooper.

General Hardware / [Frontpage News]Dell Aquires Alienware

Apparently the rumors of Dell purchasing Alienware have come true. X-bit Labs has the news over here. Is this Dell's way of getting 'in' with AMD without being blunt about it?"Even though Dell has been offering its gaming personal computers (PCs) for quite a while now, given that they all were based on processors from Intel. . .

Get your gamer Alienware computer with onboard integrated Intel smoken graphics!
