lol. Passive cooling? Yeah, that might not work in all of the cases.
I've even heard that active cooling might hinder the cooling of some laptops. Well, that just depends on the design of one's laptop again.  ::)

Wow, the price of this desktop stand is quite high. I think Cooler Master's similar product is only $40.  :-\

The cooling acquired from such stands depend very much on the laptop. When set down, the laptop usually has very little space to intake air (distance from the table to the laptop). If the laptop's fan is inefficient, having a stand is quite helpful. I don't use a stand, but simply by elevating my laptop (Compaq business something laptop) by an inch helped me reduce my temps by 3C.

News / Re: [Frontpage News]Ultra X3 600W Totally Modular PSU
« on: October 05, 2007, 05:08:38 AM »
That's a really interesting note Luvlyan.  I browsed through the specs of the 800W as well as the 600W.  Just to also note, the 600W version is reported to run 85% efficient.  In the future, we'll be able to either confirm or deny this information.
Great! I was just about to ask you if you could measure the efficiency of this power supply. Hopefully you will be able to get the proper hardware (without destroying your bank account) to do so in the near future.  O0

It's really too bad that Ultra products are only available at TigerDirect.ca at the moment, and we know how bad that reseller can be.

Did you also notice how the charts of efficiency on Ultra's website is strange? Let's say that 800W, it's labelled Energy Efficient, meaning 85% efficiency at typical load. But if you look at their graph, it never reaches such efficiency.

Hmmm, I think the AMD video card recommendation is probably a typo.  An AMD X1300 is hardly an equivalent card to the 7800GTX.
I was about to say that myself. It's a bit weird that the game maker would make such a typo, unless it's the site that made a bad copy.  ???

Nice to see that you guys are making some headway into getting quality devices to test power supplies and LCD monitors. I always thought using a simple multimeter to review a power supply was inacurate.  ;)

Glad to see you're happy.  According to your sig, you've got one of top 10 systems at BCCHardware now!  Nice!  World of Warcraft needs some pretty steep hardware so you'll be laughing all the way to the jungles in Stranglethorn Vale.
There's something wrong with his power supply though. I think it should be written 620W  :)

General Mayhem / Re: Vista & User Access Control

I have to agree with you.....Microsoft released Vista too soon. Hopefully the service pack will fix things for the herd.
Seems like it will. I read that there were some noticeable performance tweaks, but it's still Vista all over again. I'd switch to Vista when SP2 comes out, sort of like what I did with XP.
