[Frontpage News]Windows Vista: Six Not Eight

Microsoft confirmed on Sunday the upcoming versions of Windows Vista.  It will be released in six versions as opposed to earlier reports of 8 or more versions.  Six versions still seems like a lot, but not so much when you consider the four current versions of Windows XP.  Take a look at the press release over at Microsoft here. . .

I count more than four...
Windows XP Home Retail
Windows XP Home Retail SP1
Windows XP Home Retail SP2
Windows XP Home OEM
Windows XP Home OEM SP1
Windows XP Home OEM SP2
Windows XP Professional Retail
Windows XP Professional Retail SP1
Windows XP Professional Retail SP2
Windows XP Professional OEM
Windows XP Professional OEM SP1
Windows XP Professional OEM SP2
Windows XP Professional x64
Windows XP Media Center
Did they make a retail x64 and Media Center?
And what about the Dell and HP versions?

All of the XP Home versions that you mentioned are the same thing, just different ways of delivering to the end user. They all incorporate the same features.

Same with XP Pro.

Also, what is different about Dell? They use a plain OEM cd for installing XP just as if you were to on your own machine.
