Is AMD Panicing?I don't think so, but X-bit Labs has some interesting news stories about AMD this evening. First up is a news posting about AMD cutting power consumption even further in an attempt to try and make AMD chips more attractive despite the release of the high performance Conroe chip later this year. The second news posting reveals an 'accidental' posting of an Athlon 62 X2 5000+ chip on the Power and Thermal Data Sheet AMD released. . .
I think AMD has some reason to be concerned for sure. In my opinion, this spells the end of AMD's rise as the processor of choice for the gamer, but on the other hand, their dual core Opteron processors are making huge inroads in the server market. I believe AMD server market share could help carry them through until they hit some new technology that will once again help them rise. In the meantime, I'll probably be building an Intel test rig.
