Can one rail handle 100W?
« on: November 27, 2006, 10:11:32 PM »
That is the question I was wondering. How many watts can a 20 AWG and 18 AWG line handle for a 12 Volt line? Just guessing at it I would say at least 350 Watts for the 18 gauge as that is what most computer power cables are. but that is just a guess.

It should handle 100W without even getting warm in the Arizona sun.  100W at 12v is only 8.3AMPS I believe and most 12v rails handle 28+ AMPS easy.  Whatever you are working on - give'r!

Remember kids, if you happen to find yourself upside down and on fire, you've just discovered the meaning of "too fast".

I was trimming some wires off an old power supply for a lighting project I am making. I noticed that not all rails used the same guage of wire. This shouldn't be a problem for what I am making. I am planning on using five 20 Watt 12Volt ligh bulbs
You can shove one right into the 4 pin ATX motherboard power cable(it does bend the plug so you won't want to use it for your motherboard anymore).
I should take pictures and make a step by step on howto make hightech workbench lighting Red Green style.
