eVGA 7900GT KO Superclocked
« on: December 28, 2006, 01:04:56 PM »
I have a question that has been puzzling me for a little while now.  I currently have an eVGA 7900GT KO Superclocked 256mb card already in my system.  The problem is that I couldn't afford to get two of them when I first ordered this card on NewEgg and now that I have the $$$ and the need for the twin card, NewEgg stops carrying it altogether.  They do still carry the eVGA 7900GT KO 256mb card but not the Superclocked version and its about $80 less than what I payed for mine.  Ok, the question is, if I get the standard eVGA 7900GT KO and overclock the card to match my superclocked 7900 in my machine, will it be compatible in full SLi mode??

The speed of the slower card will take precedence in SLI. You will only be able to get the max OC out of the non-overclocked card. This may be a performance hit for the KO card, but seeing that you are running SLI with two 7900GT's, I don't think clock-speed is going to matter a whole lot.

So I could run the two different cards in my system in SLi mode without running into any hardware issues?  I realize that they run the same core but I was curious about the fact that 1 is factory overclocked and the other I will have to overclock to match.  Oh, thx for the quick reply even though I am new to this site, I think I just might stay a while and add my two cents worth every now and then.  I'll get my system specs and some pics of it up here as soon as I'm back home.

No, you shouldn't run into any issues. Many others have actually mis-matched manufacturers like Gigabyte+e-VGA and havn't had problems.

Thx again for the help and quick response.  I just ordered the card and should have it by the time I get home so I can enjoy my full SLi.  Now the only issue I have is with the bottle neck I have with my AMD 64 X2 3800 I have, I was thinking of upgrading to an FX 62 but haven't ready many reviews for my setup as of yet.  I may yet be the first on this one   :D

Core 2's are going for cheap right now. You can get the E6300 for close to $220 CDN. If you get the P5N-E SLI motherboard and some decent memory, you'll blow away the FX-62.

Hmmm, I just made a run through the NewEgg MoBo section of AMD and the new 4x4 line really caught my eye.  I know that they are still playing around with that setup but it could potentially make a really kick ass system if you have enough $$$ to put it together.  My tax return just may do the trick for that upgrade.
