Removing plextor 80GB shockproof hard drive
« on: January 08, 2007, 01:51:42 PM »
Can anyone tell me why i get error message when i stop my 80 GB shock proof plextor hard drive from my system (windows xp). It keeps saying "generic ....... cannot be stopped right now, try later on". I called pextor tech. support and they told me that it is windows problem of not releasing the hard drive, so what should i do? Will this affect the hard drive? I bought it very recently and used 3 times only and since first time, it gave the same error message.

Thank you all in advance

Are you using any anti-virus programs or disk defragmenters in the background? An anti-virus application that scans "on-demand" will most likely cause that error message. You might also want to check the recycle bin for any files that came from the device. If there are files in the Recycle Bin, empty it and trying stopping the device again.
