8 or 6 bit
« on: February 21, 2007, 10:13:53 PM »
Hi,
I am really interested in getting a pair of the Samsungs LCDs but keep reading conflicting reviews.

Your review says 8 bit panel but others on the web say 6 bit panel.

It is driving me crazy, I would love to have a definative answer.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

Which review did you read 8-bit panel?  This is actually not correct as the popular panel bits are 6-bit (good ones) and 5-bit (or lower) on the cheaper panels.  Please PM me a link to the review and I'll get that corrected.

Samsung's Q&A LAB got back to me this morning and they have confirmed that it is an 8-bit panel.  Sorry for the delay.  The 225BW is 8-bit though.

Another update regarding the bit capacity of the 225BW.  I know that I was told it was 8-bit, but I got an answer back from my contact who talked to the Korean developers of this unit.  The email is quoted below:

Quote
I am extremely sorry regarding the question you asked for. Actually I got
the answer from KOREA. Last answer was 8 bit. I have just got another mail
from the same source and saying that color bit of 225BW will be 6bit+FRC,
NOT 8 bit.

Sorry again. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

I too, apologize for the erroneous report.  I do believe however that this is the definitive answer.  Thanks for your patience.
