Topic: Plextor PX-AV100U Video Converter will not work

I just purchased one of these converters and I have discovered that it will not work with my Acer Aspire 5100.  I am told by tech support that it is because my computer has XP media edition. and there is a conflict some where. Tech support does not seem to be interested in finding a or suggesting solution. Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?

Windows XP Media Center Edition uses the same kernel and features as regular Windows XP with the addition of the "Media Center" package.  I don't know why this would make a difference in terms of the PX-AV100U.

When you say "it doesn't work", what doesn't work.  Does the software install?  Does the software load?  What error are you seeing.  Please give us more details and we will have a better chance to get you going.

Software loads OK and the programme starts OK.  When I try capture the video I get a message "WinDVD Creator has encountered a problem and needs to close"  This is the programme that come with the converter.  In the capture mode the programme sees? two devices the OrbiCam and the PX-AV100U converter. The error occurs when I click on the converter icon to start the process. Tech support was not any help just said it will not work with XP ME

If you've got Windows Movie Maker (ships with Windows XP), you can just use that software as the ConvertX AV-100U should be recognized in that software.  As an alternative, try unplugging your webcam and see if that makes a difference.  It's possible that the software doesn't want to try and use two different capture devices.

OF course, some times the light bulb is not very bright! Movie Maker works just fine and sees both the converter and teh cam.  Problem solved.  Thanks for the help

I'm glad I could help.  I've noticed that WinDVD Creator is sometimes fickle, and out of the box is quite an old version.  Unless it's patched up, I've had trouble with it in the past.
