Chip Soldering
« on: June 14, 2007, 01:48:19 PM »
I need a chip soldered into my nintendo wii. The chip is called 'Wiikey'.  I have no experience in soldering, but I printed off the instructions and it looks fairly simple. Does anyone know of a company that would do this soldering job (which requires a 15w soldering iron),

It depends where you live.  I know our resident "Nicao" has a fantastic Soldering iron and has the skillz to use it.  He soldered a nForce 4 Ultra chipset for me and made an SLI board out of it.  I know he's also "re-capped" many motherboards and soldered lots of laptops.  If you are in Alberta, or interested in shipping it out, he'd probably be up for a "Wii" bit of a challenge!

I might be willing to consider it for a small fee.  For use with legal backups of course.  However I have heard tell that the newer WII's are much better protected than the first batch and that they have cut the legs of the chip that you are supposed to solder to.  If that is the case then I wouldn't even attempt to solder it as it is very very difficult.
