Need help with Vista!

 I'm not sure anybody is going to be able to help me, but here goes.  I bought a copy of Vista for my former gaming machine (big recent upgrade!!)  I thought it would be a good idea to familiarize myself with Vista for my work (installing wireless Internet).  So I took the plunge.  Problem is some of my hardware seems incompatible with Vista.  My All-in-One drivers (A7n8x) don't work... Vista doesn't recognize one of the devices associated with the onboard sound card.(401 MSU or something like that).  Neither Nvidia nor Asus is providing support for Vista for this particular board. 
Did I just throw away $140??  What can I do?  Perhaps one of you is a genius with hardware drivers/compatibilty issues.  HELP!! :(

That's why I skipped Vista for now, and went back to XP. Still got the copy, and will play with it elsewhere.

I upgraded my machine to vista, but, as you pointed out, Asus has next to no support for Vista yet, and there is a major unresolved driver issue with Creative Audigy and Audigy 2 cards that causes random reboots, so back to XP I went.

Rumor has it that SP1 will be in our hands in beta form by december 31 of this year, probably best to hold off until then would be my guess. The only way to get Vista working "100%" is to buy it preinstalled from a large OEM

Yup.  At this point I think you are out of luck with that board.  Vista support is spotty - and I'm surprised that when you went through the Vista compatibility tool before installation that it didn't red-flag the system. . . unless of course you didn't run the wizzard. . .

Sorry to hear about that though.

I have to agree here. I installed Vista on my Fiancee's machine, a new Tablet PC from HP (the tc4400). It was labeled for Vista and had the requirements. The drivers and installation were all flawless, and this was only due to HP standing behind their products and supplying a CD with those drivers and an automated install application. I only wish the same could be said of their printers, which lack full Vista support across the board; my Bluetooth  enabled printer does not work with her Vista machine, only with the XP machine and my n-gage. I guess I need to run it some ethernet. :(

Also, I've installed vista on my own rig and then deinstalled it less than 24 hours later when I found that not all the drivers were available and it disabled my game controllers.  :( Much love for Acronis True Image.

Everything that I've read about Vista SP1 states that the service pack will mostly be security patches and updates since Vista's release date and not much else.  I wouldn't expect too much else, but sometimes early rumors / reports can be wrong.

At this point, I am finding a lot of problems with nForce chipsets when it comes to Windows Vista. I've had quite a few chipset driver support problems that have yet to be resolved. If I install Vista with an Intel chipset based board with the P965/P35/X38, it runs flawless.

I've been running my 64 Bit Ultimate on my P35/X38 boards for the past little while, and I have to say that Vista is becoming my permanent choice.

nVidia will not be supporting their SoundStorm (I think that's what they call it) in Windows Vista.  They stopped making their own sound solutions before Vista was in the works and re-allocated or let go anyone in the sound development department.  Pretty sad since some of those motherboards are only 2 years old and should be supported, but without support for sound, you either ditch the motherboard or buy a soundcard.

I have been setting up new Vista PCs for client lately and the driver support is really dissapointing.

Who wants to go buy a new printer just because there are no Vista drivers?

You can blame the printer manufacturer for that, not Vista. I still have old LaserJet 4L's and 5N's that will network with Vista in a heart-beat. If you have some $50 Canon or Lexmark that doesn't work with Vista, it was time for an update.

We had this same fight with XP, it's no different now. Printers are cheap, O/S's are not.

Its still pretty crappy to have to upgrade just because you want to change to a new OS, especially for stuff like scanners that are used rarely, and the old one does the job just fine....
