Well, if you have the old copy of your previous O/S, install VMWare and use it through that. VMWare has USB support so getting the old stuff to work won't be a problem. I still have a love for UMAX scanners, but it had to go at some point.

For the technically inclined person thats not such a big deal, but for your average user, thats just not an option, which is why the average user is not so happy with Vista right now

Again, we had this same battle when crossing over from 9x to XP. In a year, people will not have a choice but to accept it and move on. If the hardware manufacturers don't wish to support their hardware for another year because it is cheap to build a new product, so be it. I can remember the countless times that Visioneer screwed people because they would not make drivers for XP for a 2 to 5 year old product. Why? It was depreciated and something newer and less expensive was made with more functionality. Worked fine, yes, but depreciated.

It's the name of the game with technology to be keeping current, which is hard to do. Printers and scanners are the two biggest problem makers. But as I said, were are past paying $400 for a laser printer... more like $120-$150 for B&W.
