DVD writer kaput after region select
« on: June 26, 2007, 01:30:09 AM »
I have a Pioneer DVR110D DVDRW, and while trying out a few open source cd writing programs for windows, one of the programs complained that I had not chosen a region for my writer. I set the drive to region 1, and since that time, Nero has not recognized any media I put in it. it wont read a install CD/DVD, nor write to a blank disk.

Nero claims there is no media in the drive, and it doesnt even spin up when I pop an install cd in.

anyone have any similar experiences before I go buy a new one tomorrow?

That's very weird.  I've never heard of that before.  I'd try and flash the firmware with a new firmware from The Firmware Page.  Run Nero Info Tool to find out what firmware you've got and try to flash it. . . You can't hurt anything at this point.

Bummer.  Though it's nice that DVDRW's are less that $40CAD.  I'd grab a SATA drive at this point.  It may cost you $3 - $5 more, but it's worth it for cable management and class.

I have seen this before when you select/change the region code too many times....makes the unit dead.
