DVD and CD writing problems after uninstalling 'MP3 Maker 12'
« on: August 04, 2007, 07:38:06 PM »
I bought Magix's MP 3 Maker 12 deluxe, installed it, didn't like it and unistalled it and now Windows won't recognize either the dvd-rw or the cd-rw drives for burning.  I can still use them as rom drives.  I tried uninstalling them and reinstalling them and it didn't do any good.  One odd ting is that McAfee was able to archive on the dvd-rw drive but windows won't recognize them.  Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks.

I tried that and it didn't do anything.  The icon in My Computer says CD-RW drive but I can't write anything on it.

I did a fair bit of looking this morning and according to the forum over at Magix, the only way to fix it is to either restore your system to a time before you installed their software, or do a reinstall of Windows.

To do a system restore, go to Start -> Program Files -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.  You can then go through the wizard and choose a date prior to Magix screwing up your system.  If you've turned system restore off. . . well, that would suck in this case.

Keep in mind that everything you've installed and done since the restore point may be lost.  Six of one, half dozen of the other so to speak.

Thanks, I figured that might be the case.  Next time I will research a product more.  It was kind of an impulse buy.  All I wanted was something that would convert WMA's to mp3's.  I should probably do a proper windows install sometime anyways.  I was hoping I could wait for Vista but that might be a long time.

I remember having this problem once. I really couldn't remember where I found the fix, but finally here it is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Good luck!
