Rodney takes the E4300 processor from Intel and does some overclocking in the 3DGameman forum.  This processor comes clocked at 9x 200FSB (800QDR) for a 1.8GHz speed.  It has 2MB of cache and just begs to be overclocked.  Some people have reported 3.4GHz + with this processor so it will be interesting to see where Rodney gets his.

Well i understand that overclocking sounds tempting, espacially with the low-end intels. But people forget that OC can kill a CPU. Maybe not immediately, but i don't believe a 200% oc'ed CPU will last forever. I remember that the AMD Durons some years ago have had good OC-potential, too. I've read articles about people who could OC their durons from 700 to 1400 Mhz, but guess what, after 6 months even with good cooling the CPU was finished. And i'm not even talking about the higher power consumption, the random  application-errors, bluescreens, whatsoever.

I have an E4300 that runs pretty solid at 3.2GHz with only a minor voltage increase.  The earlier E4300's like Rodney has take quite a bit of voltage in order to get a good OC and I believe that increased voltages, especially over 1.5v is extremely dangerous on a 65nm CPU.  I have taken mine up to 1.425, but I won't run that for prolonged periods.

If you grab an E4300 - you can easily run it at 1066 x 9 = 2.4Ghz - most of the time at stock voltage and everything.  If this is possible, you won't cause any undue damage to your CPU - and you get 600MHz free performance (x2 for dual core).

I read that the E2160 processor could pull off a 3.4 Ghz overclock with no hassle too. I don't know if the processor's lifetime is diminished or not; too early to say.

One thing I've found about overclocking is that it varies so much chip by chip.  I've heard many people claim 3.6GHz on air with the E4300, and Rodney could only get 3.1x Stable.  I've done slightly better with mine - getting 3.2-3.3 with less voltage than him, and I know Nicao has played around with an E4300 and got a little better than 2.4GHz stable at stock voltage.  All of these chips are E4300's so it's hit and miss if you'll get a good chip . . . kinda like a good Samsung 226BW. . .

I have mine running stable at 3.45Ghz with a 1.45 core voltage. Some people say that OC's needing 1.55 or higher will definitely shorten their lifespan. I decided that keeping it under 1.5 was my comfort zone. I'm very happy with it and I am optimistic about it's lifespan  O0

Wow... that's really good. I have yet to read a user that cannot reach 3.4 Ghz with the E2160.
