[Frontpage News]Lapworks Aluminum Desktop Stand

Lapworks Aluminum Desktop Stand

We have just posted up a look at a very thin, light and handy desktop stand for your laptop.  This is from LapWorks and it's their Aluminum Desktop Stand.  It has six height positions, a swivel base and is solid enough to hold up even 8lb, 17" laptops.  If you use your laptop at a desk consistently, take a look at how this unit can save your neck, some pain and a therapy bill.

The Lapworks Aluminum Desktop Stand does one thing very well - it elevates the laptop and provides a solid platform for extended desktop use.  If you've used a laptop at a desk without a stand for an extended period, you'll understand the neck and shoulder strain that can occur from constantly looking down.  This stand provides a much more comfortable environment for extended laptop use in a desktop environment. . .

We'd love to hear your feedback!

Wow, the price of this desktop stand is quite high. I think Cooler Master's similar product is only $40.  :-\

The cooling acquired from such stands depend very much on the laptop. When set down, the laptop usually has very little space to intake air (distance from the table to the laptop). If the laptop's fan is inefficient, having a stand is quite helpful. I don't use a stand, but simply by elevating my laptop (Compaq business something laptop) by an inch helped me reduce my temps by 3C.

Some stands have open ventilation on the bottom, or active cooling through fans.  I've found these to provide temperature decrease.  The way Lapworks states this stand helps cool is by providing a thin aluminum surface that will passively draw heat from your laptop.  Not so much.  If they cut some holes in it it would be cooler, but that's not really the main purpose - it's to get it higher.

I'm sure that the melting Toshiba and Dell laptops would benefit, but the Acer Core 2 Duo that I own actually runs pretty decent.

lol. Passive cooling? Yeah, that might not work in all of the cases.
I've even heard that active cooling might hinder the cooling of some laptops. Well, that just depends on the design of one's laptop again.  ::)

My Dell M1210 laptop gets very hot just from mild use like web surfing.....to the point that it is uncomfortable to have it sitting on my lap. If I am doing anything more intense then the laptop will fire up a side discharge fan that blows out air that is hot enough that I am concerned. I have been looking for a laptop stand just so that the bottom vents will not be plugged with my pants etc when the unit is being used while sitting down. I like the look of this review unit but the lack of some vent holes seems odd....

This unit is made for a desktop environment.  The Futura Lapdesk is for laptop use.  Check your PM.

You know. with the use of this and a standard monitor or LCD, you can use dual-display on your desk? That's the true point of these angled stands.
