Crucial 32GB 2.5in Solid State Drive

We have taken a look at the first SSD to cross our bench.  We have the Crucial 32GB SSD that supports the standard SATA interface and fits in virtually any system that can take a standard 2.5" HDD.  What is not standard though is performance.  This is a high performing unit that can achieve consistent 100MB/sec and higher read speeds.  Take a look at our review for all the details.

While there are many years left in traditional hard drives, the truth is that SSDs are here to stay and with the performance advantages they show they are something that hardcore enthusiasts will want to put in their machines.  SSDs offer better performance, lower power consumption and are much more durable that physical moving media. . .

Can't wait for these to drop in price and go mainstream in laptops!
Do SSD drives run hot? Flash media usually does hmm...

I never reported temps in the review (as you obvioulsy noticed) but it remained much cooler than a standard 320GB 5400rpm drive.  I'd guess the SSD temp on the open test bench remained low-mid 30s while the standard drive reached over 45C.

I was wondering when these were going to get bigger, when the digital cameras started off with these types of "cards" when was the hard drive of the pc going to be replaced.... I await the new drives, but the price will have to come down... I wont be making a Tera-byte server with these yet..   O0 Just curious does these new drives require less power to run right?? Does this hook up with the standard molex connector could you run these off of the 5v line or 12v 3.3v ??? No moving parts so the 12v line should be over kill??
Remember kids, if you happen to find yourself upside down and on fire, you've just discovered the meaning of "too fast".

Power is supplied by standard SATA Power connector and yes a Molex-SATA power adapter will work.  Flash storage takes mere mili-amps so there is no strain on lines.

I hope these prices come down soon. I can't see myself paying $800 for a 32GB SSD

At least those are cheaper than the prices were in 1980 for a 18mb hard drive....

Wish I could find my picture that I had of a 1GB hard drive being loaded off a cargo plane with a forklift...
