Ubuntu 9.10 is here
« on: October 29, 2009, 08:19:16 AM »
After a successful Windows 7 Launch party at my place last weekend. And getting to see how Windows 7 runs on an older laptop. Time to see how the latest version of Ubuntu 9.10 will work on that laptop.
Download your free Operating System at Ubuntu
Just think, not having to worry about 99.9% of the virus's out there. And still be able to do your emailing, facebook, banking, and web surfing.

I'm going home for lunch today to start the download.  Hopefully it'll be done by the time I get home from work.  I'm about due for a re-load both on my main machine and laptop.  I was thinking of doing an "Ubuntu challenge" to see how long I can go before reverting back to windows.  However, a brand new dual core laptop with win 7 home premium is available for $375 down here which makes it very very tempting.

I think I could probably get along with Ubuntu ok... until I wanted to plan an unsupported game.  Hmm.  What to do... What to do. . .

Ok, so . . .

I wiped windows completely off of my laptop and did a complete install of 9.10.  I have to say I'm impressed.  Everything was rather painless.  My wireless even worked from the getgo.  Configuring the wireless profile for a hidden wifi network was easier than in windows.  I was able to navigate to all my windows shares without any issue.  I even got my network printer set up and printed a test page with ease.  Installed flash without a hitch.  It was an easy experience.  I'm impressed.

Dual boot it with Win7...get the best of both worlds. I do like seeing how snappy my system is when the OS takes less than 400 megs of ram :D
