24GB DDR3 and Windows 7

We have just posted an article where we look at a 24GB set of Crucial DDR3-1333.  This kit consists of six 4GB modules of PC3-10600 CL9 memory.  This memory is certainly not the fastest or tightest RAM from Crucial, but at 4GB per stick, it allows many people the ability to beef up their systems to incredible levels.  If you do a lot of virtualization, photo and video editing, this article may be of supreme interest to you.

Recently, Crucial launched 4GB and 8GB memory modules that allow more people to be able to load up their systems for some serious multi-tasking applications.  We will be briefly looking at two pair of 12GB kits in our test system that gives us 24GB of memory to play with.  This is a pretty solid chunk of kit and it will currently set you back close to $1,000.  The interesting thing to see is if we can bog down a system and make it bleed. . .

Please post your thoughts, comments, questions and ideas on how you want us to push this kit before we have to break it up and send it away...

Just curious as to what was running on the virtual machines when you tested playing Call of Duty MW2.

Were they just sitting idle? or were they under some amount of load?

They were under a bit of load copying files, playing media and updating Ubuntu.  Not much load ~10% - 25% load per "core".  Windows 7 showed the task manager at ~35% before I launched MW2.
