Good news Civilization fans, you'll be getting a 5th installment sometime in the future (Fall 2010). Sid Meier and Firaxis studios have also announced that it will be based on a newly developed game engine and will offer considerable support for the modding community. Gamasutra has more on this new announcement.

It truly is a timeless classic however I still prefer the simplicity of the original, don't get me wrong having a council is an interesting dynamic. How many people here really take there advice seriously?

I'm actually excited about this game and will probably go buy it, I'm currently addicted to the gameboy version and remember how addicting it can be

If you take their advice, then it's like having them play your game for you  :o

Heh, I also saw this announced a couple days ago...and I agree with Project X, however I have never played the original I do like the simplicity of Civ III, although probably not quite as simple as the original ;) I definately like the introduction of hexagonal tiles, I think that's a great improvement.

Looking forward to the game, but probably won't buy it...too short on cash to even buy Supreme Commander 2 so CIV V is probably a ways down my purchase list.

@Krab - Aren't RTS games more of a spectator sport anyhow?  That's the way I roll if I'm not playing a FPS.  :)

I dont recall what Civ game it was however the council kept informing me that some city was revolting (not that I didn't notice it). The down side was they never told me how to fix the problem.. whats the point in that.. Why I enjoyed the original game cause it was a dictatorship.. what you says goes.. perhaps the game has evolved some more.. Doubt it would retain its same rating if they did this but they really should consider having an option where you can execute your council and have there heads on a spike or toss them in gladiator games.. boast the cities moral perhaps  :police:
