I thought it was not bad.  I did have a good time (and great food thanks to Nils)!  I honestly think the LAN in Lethbridge was a little more fun, as I didn't know many people. . . a change of venue is always a good time.

All in all, it was good.  We had some pretty close maps:  8-0, 24-0, and 3-0, for example.  Tough show down to the wire.

I'll be ready for another possibly around Christmas time, but until then, I've got a ton of reviews to do.

I thought it was a pretty good Lan party after everything was said and done, last time I think after a couple maps we actually came up with 2 teams that played against each other for a few maps, which I thought was fun, maybe it was just me, but then at least you could remember who was on your team!!

I too want to thank Nils again, hopefully he had a good time and was able to get some research done

I agree about the team thing.  D-man had the teams balanced, so a person couldn't choose.  I think next time, we should pick some teams without the team balance on.  Good call Fujitsu.

It was a great lan party.  Thanks Nils for the pizza!  Static teams would have been nice, but hey we have no one to blame but ourselves.   Maybe by the time the next lan comes out, galactic conquest will be a bit more mature, or maybe ut2004 will be out.  I still think DesertCombat is just great.  Special thanks to Thread,N,Motion for the great venue, and to D-Man for all the setup and tear down I know he and Fujitsu do.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to thank all of you for your help with my research.  I appreciate the effort everyone made to accomodate me, my questions, and my observations.  I will try to keep you updated on my work - especially with regard to any publications or conference presentations that come from it.

Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to discuss (nkolson@ucalgary.ca or (403) 508-9300).  Also if anyone is ever curious about the types of research being done on games I would be happy to talk about that too.  Or if you have any ideas on things that should be researched - I am always looking for research topics, especially from gamers.

I am not sure when I would like to contact people for interviews but it should be some time before Christmas - I will try to post something up here before I contact people individually.

Finally, I am also involved at the University of Calgary with research on the Alberta SuperNet which is a highspeed Internet infrastructure that is currently being built to bring very highspeed access to rural communities (http://supernet.ucalgary.ca/).  Although this is not related to the game research I am doing I thought some of you might be interested in learning more.  At the moment our research team is holding Town Hall meetings in interested communities - including Vulcan - for citizens who might be interested in learning more or giving input.  We will be presenting in Vulan on Oct. 29th at 7:00pm.  I will give you more information on this when it becomes available.

Thanks again.

Nils

Thanks for the input on the Vulcan meeting.  Unfortunately, I am one of those people that are waiting for that ship . . . or any ship other than dial-up, or Satellite Internet (ping sucks).
