LANParty at BoneRaks! Version 3.0
« on: September 09, 2010, 03:05:48 PM »
Good day all.
It's getting close to that time a year again.
I am having a LANparty on Saturday October 23rd.  Again it is at my place in the garage (Got the wood for the stove already).
The game this year will be Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. I still have my Unreal Tournament 3 server running, just incase the internet goes down and Modern Warfare 2 stops working.
Bring a couple bucks for Pizza or Chineese.

And to sum it up:

Who: Everyone I have gamed with at VulcLAN is welcomed
What: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 LANParty
Where: BoneRak's house in Lethbridge Alberta
When: October 23rd 2010.
Why: Skill honing, low ping LAN's are tough to beat for the close rivalry and high adrenaline rushes of good games.

Sounds like the inernet is required for MWF 2, even for LAN play.  Does this mean that those of us that are far far away can join in from afar?

Only two more sleeps!

I'm getting excited. Tables are setup. Now to run the power and network cables.
And find a place to hide all the junk that a garage seems to accumulate.

I'll be starting the LANParty at 10AM on Saturday.
Gives me 2 hours to setup the computer before lunch. I think I will actually be able to reach that goal this year!  ;D

Bonerak, I've confirmed that I'm coming and will bring network cables and a nice switch for us to use.  Also, thinking of bringing the QNAP as well for some demo love.  It's a screaming monster!  If you want to decline the network, no worries, just PM me please.  See you all there!

And we have a sponsor!
bcchardware - for the network gear use.
Headwater Equipment Sales Ltd. - energy drinks and cash prizes.
Askatech Computer Services - with some cool cooling prizes.

I will take your invite for the use of your network gear. That way I won't have to down my network and move it around. It will be nice to see that QNAP unit. I've played with a smaller model before but I thought it was great for the size and features. I actually have that QNAP 209 Pro torn apart on my workbench with a dead motherboard and fried hard drives. Best guess is that a hard drive failed and continued to power cycle till the customer noticed, and then told me about it a week or two later.

Hey guys, quick question, how did you get MW2 up and running in a LAN setting? Will your router keep all traffic local? We have tried before at some of our LAN parties, only running 2 computers through the internet hoping the router would keep all the traffic local after the game started, but no such luck.

We've done it several ways - with ICS enabled on one computer and everyone pinging steam in order to get the game started.  It worked fine.  For this LAN we used a workaround called AlterIWNET or something like that.

I have bought the game and enjoy it but LAN play can be difficult if now ISP is available.

Thanks. I've actually looked @ AlterIWnet or whatever its called. I bought the game as well, but don't see any issues "modifying" it to work on a LAN.
