Topic: PC Game Prices

[Howdy Duty]

Is it just me or are PC games too expensive?  (Or maybe I'm getting cheap as I age)

Long long ago, in the before time, games used to cost $30-$40 with premium titles being $50.  Now the trend appears to be $40-$50 with premium games being $60.  I can't justify $60 for a game.  Obviously this is working for publishers given record sales of the modern warfare series and starcraft 2.  Modern Warfare 2 is over a year old and still retails for $60.  In fact it's on the bargain shelf at Walmart with its original $60 price tag.

On the flip side I find myself buying cheap bundles on Steam for my entertainment.  I bought the orange box and world of goo a few weeks ago for $10.  $10!!  That's value for ya...  Ok, I think I'm done ranting now.

I logged on to battle.net to see if starcraft 2 was any cheaper digitally and this is what I got... (see attachment)

The higher prices basically make it so I only buy a couple games a year, on the flip side it makes for less impulse game buys which end up taking up space on a shelf somewhere

I do like the Steam "Bargain Bin", I've bought quite a few when they've gone on sale

I'm more impressed that they figure that one guy can process 200,000 orders in 12 hours!

I suppose it depends on the game. Considering that COD has a released title every year, is it really worth $60 for the slight improvements which could have been an expansion? In my experiences so far with MW, MW2 and the current one: no.

However there are other games which have much more reasonable pricing, and typically I also find them on STEAM.

as a FYI, Bioshock 2 is $10 right now on STEAM.

There's also plenty of Indie games on there for very reasonable prices, as well as old classics that actually work in newer OS'.

be sure to be checking steam every day between now and January 2nd. they have the Holiday Sale going on, and amazing deals on tons of games. The first day, I picked up the valve complete pack in the morning for my fiance for $25. Now it is sitting at $50, which is still 72% off its normal price.

If you are looking for a cool platformer, check out the indie game super meat boy. tons of fun, but I can't for the life of me understand how a chunk of meat could continue to live in a world with sooooo many meat saws
