VulcLAN 2012 Announced!!!
« on: January 28, 2012, 09:11:35 PM »
Oh yeah!!!  After talking with Jason "Zuma King" Schneider, we discovered that VulcLAN 2012 is actually our 10th Annual LAN party!!!  So it goes without saying that this year will be EPIC!

We've got a lot of stuff planned and are going to be lining up sponsors over the course of the next month or so in order to get you guys more stuff that you know what to do with!  If you're interested in attending "Alberta's Largest LAN South of Calgary" make sure you head on over to VulcLAN and get yourself registered.

This thread will be updated with more information as we go, but for now we do know that we will be running from March 15-18, 2012 once again here in Vulcan!

In order to get some good pre-VulcLAN practice in on CoD4 - we've signed up for a 12-slot server that we'd love you to join us on.  Please feel free to get some games going, invite your friends and have some fun!

Server is now up!  Enjoy!

Well, I'm registered and definitely lookin forward to it. I gotta admit though that I'm not excited about going back to COD4. Obviously this idea has too much traction already to change but I would really rather play MW3 or BlackOps even. If the tourney is COD4 I guess I'll have to practice a bit while I'm there but I hope others are interested in MW3 instead. I was planning on setting up an MW3 server to bring along since running a local dedicated server is possible. I can't get into a whole weekend of COD4 though. Compared to more recent titles everything in the game seems drab, greenish and sepia toned. I still enjoy it every once in a while but isn't one retro title tourney "cough"UT3"cough" enough? I guess we would need to run AceMOD or similar  for COD4 again so everyone can use every weapon etc? I could help with the COD4 tourney and throw it on my server as per previous years if it would help but my heart just isn't in it to the same degree this year.

Hey RoNiN... Fear Not.  We will be having a major CoD:MW3 or Blops tournament for sure.  We always play one "old school" game at the LAN and this year, CoD4 is it.  Because of my technical limitations of inability to code in MySQL, I had to pick three games to put on the list and I chose to list those.

If you could bring a CoD4 machine, that would be great, but like I said, the CoD4 is the old-school - UT3 isnt' that old ... is it?  We'll be flexible, but if you register for CoD4 - consider it a vote for CoD:MW3/Blops as well.

Thanks for your input, we WON'T be doing a full weekend of CoD4.  I promise!

Also, we'll be talking one day soon on TS so we can get tournament rules nailed down so we don't have any last minute "so how should we do this" conversations.  Thanks for ALL your support RoNiN!  We'll make it up to you for sure!

Sounds good to me. I'll plan on getting my server set up for both COD4 and MW3. I think I actually still have all my old ACEmod configs saved somewhere so it shouldn't take much to be tourney ready. As for MW3 no modding is necessary at all since running an unranked dedi allows access to all weapons and equipment and has decent stock configuration options. 10th anniversary eh? woot!!

btw, UT3 was released 2 weeks after COD4 in Nov 2007. While COD titles come and go it just wouldn't be a VulcLAN without some UT  :D

The COD4 tourney may have some "unique" rules and twists and will be more of a fun tourney, I'm just working on putting together all the details right now.

MW3 will be the more traditional tourney but we'll also be posting the full set of rules in the next little while so everyone can start practicing if they want (or you can be like me and install the game the morning of the lan party).

I'm looking forward to it all!  For the UT3 Tournament, we are going to use laptops only - no mice, and drive around while playing...  I think I'll be able to p0wn BoneRak!

Hey Fujitsu, I'd love to know your plans for both COD tourneys. I'll get things prepared on my server and hopefully not have too many kinks to work out at the LAN for once, lol. I have been re-familiarizing myself with COD4 mods and have been testing the openwarfare mod instead of the ACE we usually use. It is updated more frequently still and has several new game modes like gungame, sharpshooter and one in the chamber among others. It allows for map voting and of course has unranked mode with all unlocks configurable. It is expected that a kill confirmed mode will be added shortly. I'd love to try it out if it's available. I would suggest as in previous years that we avoid a straight TDM team tournament for either as objective based (kill confirmed?) seems to be more balanced. I set up rules for MW3 team juggernaut that I haven't tried yet but might make for a different yet balanced and competitive gameplay. Objective is to eliminate the other teams juggernaut and you can configure the juggernaut to switch between players at specified intervals. Interesting that ProjectX in including MW3 in their upcoming LAN. If anyone else is attending this I might consider fitting in some pre-VulcLAN practice.

Also, I was having some with Photoshop and made a Vulclan logo. I put it in the start and end menu's of openwarfare mod as well. If I have time I'll make a higher res version for wallpaper. Can't wait...
