AMD 8-Core Piledriver
« on: October 31, 2012, 07:17:45 AM »
AMD isn't really the king of performance no matter how you slice it, but they make a pretty compelling cost/performance platform.  TechwareLabs has a look at their new FX-8350 "Piledriver" processor and shows off what AMD can do with their latest 8-Core 4.0GHz-4.2GHz stock clocked processor.  The specs on it look pretty impressive, but the performance is nothing too exciting.

Vortez has a look at the same chip and they compare it to a lot of other AMD chips, but there are no Intel comparisions in sight.

Piledriver is meant to bring us better performance over Bulldozer, but the thermal side of things have not been improved just yet. It is still rated at 125w which is a lot of power to be chewing through but if the performance/watt ratio increases, it may be justifiable. We will have to see how much of a gain there is in terms of performance before we jump to any conclusions. Without any further ado, lets dive in.
