PNY USB2.0 Attaché Review Feedback
« on: December 19, 2003, 08:23:25 AM »
When down south recently I headed on over to BestBuy in Billings MT, and picked up a PNY USB2.0 Attaché Drive.  It's a handy little 128MB flash drive, that no true geek should be without.  Head on over and read the review here.

This thread is open to any comments, questions, and feedback you have.

I just picked up a Transcend flash drive earlier this week. http://www.transcendusa.com/FlashCard/FLSMod.asp?CatID=11#JetFlash 2.0
There was one project that I was constantly using a floppy disk for, because of the 1MB file size that I needed to transport to another computer. The disk went bad on me one day so I thought I would order one of these. It's got to be safer right? It was the first one that I played with and it lasted about 3 days. Word of warning. They do not like static shocks.
I'll be ordering another one right away but I will have to discharge my self first, instead of through the flash drive.

Yeah thats not too good there Bonerak, I've been using my Sony microvault for about 4 months now and it works great.  Now I can't live without it.

For those of you that don't know BoneRak, he is the king of static.  I believe that the next Batman movie: Batman Battles Static-Man At The Computer Store - could actually be based on BoneRak. ;)

Also, I've heard that rubbing the flash drive on a cat is not always a good idea.

It's good to know they are staticly sensitive though.

Really?  I thought that is how you overclocked these things.  :D JK

I do believe the benchmarks in this review are inaccurate. You benchmarked using the HDTach with the "Removable 0.1 gb" as the drive. The actual drive is "Physical 0.1 gb".

The performance numbers for "physical" is much closer to what I calculated when I took a 100 MB file and calculated the transfer speed.

Just in case what you guys were wondering:

I got 7.9 MB/sec average for read and 6.9 MB/sec average for write.

Thanks for the info Smokie.  I revisited my benchmarks used the PhysicalDrive and took a new screenshot.  It's now posted in the review here.

The graph looks much different, but the performance is still about the same on my system - just under 5MB/sec read and write.

Thanks again for your input.

Weird.  It does look quite different.  Accoring to PNY Tech's website, my version looks like the model they are selling now.  Maybe yours was an earlier model?  Either way they're both USB2.0 and 128MB.  Interesting that you see greater performance. . .
What version of HDTach are you running?
