Acer Makes Your Phone a Laptop
« on: September 03, 2013, 08:51:27 PM »
Acer is not the first company to try and make your phone a lot more useful than a standard phone.  While phone displays are getting larger and their processors are super powerful compared to devices a few years ago, they are still limited in their use due to their form factor.  Acer has a new product that is currently still a concept but they think will be available in 2014.  This allows you to plug your phone (any Android 4.0+ device with MicroUSB) and it will dock with and power the laptop.  This is a pretty cool idea - and it might be worth it - if they can keep the price around that of a Chromebook.

The Acer Extend unit connects to most Android powered phones over a MHL port for display/USB connectivity as well as the ability to charge the phone with its built-in 6,000 mAh battery. The dock exposes a full-sized QWERTY Keyboard, Touchpad and at least one full-sized USB port. The Keyboard also contains several useful shortcut keys to help you navigate.Source: AndroidHeadlines
