Perpetual Dead Hardware Thread
« on: July 20, 2004, 01:07:54 PM »
I thought I'd start a thread regarding all of the dead hardware that we've been going through.  It seems that a lot of gear has been dying lately, and it's not all mine.

Here is what's died on me the last two weeks.

1. Bios Savior.  I ordered it from FrozenCPU and it worked once.  It refused to flash after that.
2. 120GB Western Digital IDE Harddrive.

My computer had been acting weird, so I checked my Event Log.  It said "Bad Sectors" I promptly tried to ghost it to a new drive, but it was so full of errors that it wouldn't even "Force" ghost.  The drive kept getting hotter and hotter the longer it tried.  Finally, it got so hot that I could barely touch it and on a whim, I tried again.  It worked!!  The drive is now dead however. . . I got my data just in the nick of time.

Post your toasted hardware here.  If it catches fire and you get pics, you'll get a bump in your post count.  So fry away!

Here's another one. . . my XBOX.

You can't really blame this on me, or anyone for that matter. . . It's an XBOX, and they don't seem to last.  I'm pleased that it wasn't even in my possession when it cratered.

I've recently had a Western Digital 120GB IDE Hard Drive bit the dust.  I replaced it with a Samsung 120GB 7200rpm 8MB cache drive, and I tell you what, it's a lot quieter than WD's drives.

After donating a 20 gig drive to a friend and putting on a fresh install of winxp, it bit the dust.  Half a days work down the drain.  Bleh.
