Hey guys....
Curious... I've been told that the 6800 will beat the pants off a X800 XT Platinum and vis versa. does anyone have proof either way? or does it just come down to personal prreference.
don't get me wrong i understand that the 6800 ultra is the better choice for doom 3 but i'm looking at something thats universal. would going with the Ati be the better choice?

ATI had no competition at first, then came the shader 3 patch for Far Cry, then Doom3. As well as the posssibility for dual pci express. Makes one wonder now.
What about Half-Life2? That may sway me one way or the other.

ATi has enabled Pixel Shader 2.0b for their X800 is some of the latest drivers and patches. It has gained some ground in FarCry and Doom 3, but not a lot. These games are designed for long shader programs that ATi doesn't currently support. It's too early to make any definitive judgement calls. It depends what games you want to play as developers works very closely with the hardware manufacturers.

ATI used to hold all the cards but Nvidia has made a strong comeback. With their sli capabilities I think that nvidias going to be the way to go.

I agree, it's always switching back and forth. Befor the 7800, you couldn't give me a Nvidia card. Except for back in the G Force 4xxx days before the Radeon 9500/9700 cards.

I'm currently using a Compaq Presario Pentium IV with 2.8 GHZ and 80 GB. I notice that we have NVIDIA drivers in our system...it has 64 MB of AGP. What version of NVIDIA would that be? Just curious in case anyone is familiar with Compaq Presarios.
Thanks!
