ATI Catalyst 4.12 Beta
« on: December 06, 2004, 09:58:04 AM »
I'm going to be trying out the Omega 4.12 beta tweaked drivers to see if I can get some more FPS in HL2/CS:S  Right now I'm getting a little chop in CS:S and it really bugs me  :D  I'm thinking that an x800 pro should get better performance so we'll see how it goes.  Plus I'm tempted to upgrade to a A64, but can't really afford it  :o

Anyway I'll post my thoughts after I get them installed and test them out for a good few rounds of CS:S
Has anyone else tried these out?  If so what are your results with them?

I've tried the TechConnect HL2 optimized drivers located in the downloads section of this site.  They are based on the 4.12 beta's as well.  I have no issues with HL2 - CS:S with them.  No chop at all on my 9800 Pro with all settings high 2x AA, 16x AF, 1024x768 or (1280x1024 when clocked up to 9800XT+).  FPS always above 40.

Well after some time spent with these drivers, I was hoping for more of an improvement, but for the most part I was able to get higher average FPS on Counter Strike Source.  However when there would be a big battle going on with lots of players it seemed to slow down to roughly what I was getting before.  This I'd say is a bottleneck with my CPU more and not the video card.  Video card is an X800 pro which should be able to handle the video part just fine.
