Lenovo Pays $3.5 Million for Installing Adware
« on: September 05, 2017, 08:08:12 PM »
Lenovo overall is a pretty solid company that has done a lot of things right. They have also done a few major things wrong. One of these that they had to pay for lately is when they installed adware as part of the software package on new laptops. The software at fault was called VisualDiscovery and it popped up ads and blocked browsers from blocking malicious sites.

“Lenovo compromised consumers’ privacy when it preloaded software that could access consumers’ sensitive information without adequate notice or consent to its use,” Acting FTC Chairman Maureen Ohlhausen said in a statement. “This conduct is even more serious because the software compromised online security protections that consumers rely on.”Source: Reuters
