AMDs Sweet Spot - 7870 & 7850

AMD is not resting and they've just dropped the NDA on their mid-range cards - now tagged in the 78xx series.  The question arising from the reviews is does the 7870 make the more expensive 7950 obsolete already?  Take a look below at the reviews to find out.

Alienware M14x

PCPerspective has a look at the Alienware M14x as they try and give portable gaming another go.  This laptop has some pretty great features - including a "Sandy Bridge" Quad-Core i7 CPU, a 750GB 7200rpm drive and a nice 1600x900 screen.  I love the USB 3.0 feature as well as DisplayPort, HDMI & VGA.  See how it performs with the NVIDIA GT 555 inside.

Having a big frame gives the M14x plenty of room for connectivity. Two USB 3.0 ports are included, as well as an additional USB 2.0 port. Display connections include Mini-DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA while audio is handled by two audio-out ports and an audio-in/microphone port. Ethernet and a 9-in-1 card reader are made available as well.

Terrafugia Roadable Aircraft

We showed you some preliminary video of the flying car a while back, but now it has actually flown and is being debuted at the New York Auto Show.  The beauty of this is not the sleek design (it has none), but the fact that it can do both - is road-legal and is available for pre-order.  I opted for the Mass Effect 3 pre-order as the car/plane will set you back $279,000.

Samsung Action

Samsung has a wide range of products and today we've gathered up some Samsung reviews floating in the new bucket and have put them together to prove our point.

TweakNews starts off with the SA850 27" LCD that comes in bearing a nice 2560x1440 resolution.  TweakNews is up next with a look at the WB750 camera that comes with a nice long 18x optical zoom as well as the entry-level ST96 camera.

If you're more interested in a phone that also has a camera, MEGATech Reviews looks at the Galaxy Note while TweakNews brags about the Galaxy Nexus.

There is a good chance you'll be looking at SSD storage in the next few months, and if so, the Samsung PM830 series over at the SSDReview gives you a heads-up on what mSATA's are doing.  These are what is inside the awesome ultrabook machines.

Mobile World Congress 2012 Roundup

The Mobile World Congress has rapped up in Barcelona this week and as expected we saw quite a few new smartphone being announced. As usual some of them are still quite a few months away but if you're a phone person its kinda cool to see whats next. Engadget has the full roundup of all the coolest phones that were being announced this year at the MWC.

Mobile World Congress is a dignified affair held yearly in Barcelona that companies take very seriously. For example, unlike CES, there are lots and lots of suits -- after all, this is a congress. Here, some of the most unique and desirable handsets meet the eyes of press, analysts and buyers for the very first time. Accordingly, anxieties were high among company leaders as they put their best foot forward and held their breath for the first round of impressions.

iPad 3 to be called iPad HD?

Here's your Friday Apple rumor: The new iPad (iPad 3) might be using the name iPad HD instead. The guys over at Gizmodo are reporting that thanks to some of Apple's partners releasing products for the next iPad already a couple of them are referring to it as iPad HD. Is this just a mistake or could this be the actual name of the next device? Guess we only have to wait a little while longer before its released and the constant rumors can finally stop.

Would Apple name the new iPad 3 the iPad HD? According to alleged part listings from Griffin and Belkin, this may be the case. The product name is a good match for the its new Retina-like display.

Five ways Windows 8 is better than iOS and Android

The Windows 8 "consumer preview" went live this week and already people seem to be liking it, even the guys over at CNN/Wired who have found 5 things they like about Windows 8 that neither iOS or Android offer. It will be interesting to see how Windows 8 sells when it is finally released but the fact that everyone isn't trashing it already is probably a good sign for Microsoft.

When Microsoft revealed the "consumer preview" of Windows 8 on Wednesday, it didn't just give the world a glimpse at a new OS — it also showed us that it can be a leader in touch-based user interface design. Yes, Microsoft's new tablet UI isn't merely utilitarian. It's actually innovative, and even cool.

And in some ways it trumps the best that Apple and Google currently have to offer in iOS and Android, respectively.
